Vagabond Restaurant and Bar

Vagabond Restaurant and Bar Will be s New culinary scene

Miami’s vagabonds will have a new place to call home when Vagabond Restaurant and Bar opens its doors in October 2014 at 7301 Biscayne Blvd. The newest venture from international restaurateur and art collector Alvaro Perez Miranda, Vagabond Restaurant and Bar will take center stage at the newly renovated Vagabond Hotel in Miami’s MiMo District on Biscayne Blvd.

Part restaurant, part bar, and part art gallery, Vagabond Restaurant and Bar will redefine Miami’s dining scene, creating a modern salon of cultural experiences – with inspired, sophisticated food and artisanal libations.

Together with partners Dalia Lagoa and Avra Jain, Perez Miranda will cater to “today’s contemporary vagabond” -- the modern Miamian who travels the globe, absorbing cultures and setting trends. “The modern vagabond has a winter home in Miami and a summer home abroad; he or she is ultra-stylish, with a worldly perspective and discerning taste in fine wine and food,” says Perez Miranda.

Vagabond Restaurant and Bar will feature a global menu that reflects Perez Miranda’s culinary roots stemming from Venezuela, Los Angeles, Italy, Japan and New York. A signature dish will be Kanpachi Ceviche, a delicate dish of seriola dumerili, the subtropical fish known as amberjack, infused with yuzu, avocado and quinoa. “Respect for each food item in its entirety is essential in developing a great dish,” says Perez Miranda. “Food doesn’t need to taste more or less than what it is.”

The restaurant’s retro-luxe décor will have a 1960’s vibe including murals by contemporary artists, living walls of greenery and a constellation-inspired lighting installation crisscrossing the ceiling. Anchoring the space will be a circular sunken bar with lounge seating. The restaurant will accommodate 150 -- 75 inside and 75 outside in the al fresco courtyard adjacent to the hotel swimming pool. An art installation by photographer Guillermo De Yavorsky will feature black-and-white portraits taken on an iPhone 5 of Miami vagabonds and their possessions in candid, snapshot style.

About Alvaro Perez Miranda

Alvaro Perez Miranda, the visionary behind Vagabond Restaurant and Bar, is a Venezuelan-born entrepreneur who attended Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles before starting a career in the hospitality industry in Los Angeles and Tokyo, Japan – where he would go on to enjoy a 20-year run, opening more than 70 restaurants, some of which are still thriving.

In 1989, Perez Miranda opened Il Forno in Tokyo along with Joseph Suceveanu and Royal Host, the second largest food and beverage company in Japan. By 2001, Perez Miranda had opened 33 successful restaurants in Tokyo, including Bruschetta Pix Cafe, Provence and Il Pinolo – the latter being the first restaurant to serve original Tuscan cuisine in Japan. In 2002, Perez Miranda opened Metromet, a Tokyo-based restaurant consulting and management firm. Perez Miranda’s ultra-posh restaurants became favorite haunts of Hollywood’s A-listers when visiting Japan, including Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, Robert Downey, Jr. and Giorgio Armani.

In 2006, in New York City, Perez Miranda tapped into his passion for the arts and all things creative and formed Black Ship Moment, an art collaborative where artists, performers, technicians, thinkers and entrepreneurs collaborated on art projects that ultimately pushed boundaries and intertwined the roles of art and play. One of Black Ship Moment’s projects was a fundraiser for Original Music Workshop in Brooklyn -- a collaboration with Helena Christensen, which was attended by top corporate executives, as well as celebrities Bono, Edge and Julianne Moore. Other artists the gallery showcased include theater designer Julian Crouch, composer Mark Stewart and filmmaker Ragnar Freidank, the latter of whom created the acclaimed Chelsea art installation, “Armchair Parade.”
