“The Art of Brew” To Benefit Young At Art Museum

Students from Florida International University’s Hospitality Management Program to co-sponsor fundraiser

FORT LAUDERDALE – In a celebration of creativity in South Florida, "The Art of Brew" Presented by The Bedlam Lorenz Assembly and EcoSimplista with Craig Zinn Automotive Group as major sponsor will showcase the student ran organization, B.R.E.W. FIU to benefit Young At Art Museum from 7 to 11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30 at The Projects Space, 519 NW 1st Ave Ft. Lauderdale, 33301 in the FAT Village Arts District in downtown Fort Lauderdale. B.R.E.W. FIU is a beer lab created and managed by students enrolled in Florida International University’s Hospitality Management Program.

The evening will include an art exhibition and auction featuring the work of Margi Nothard, noted designer of the new 55,000 square-foot, GOLD LEED-certified Young At Art Museum and Broward County Library currently under construction in central Broward County and other prominent artists including Francie Bishop Good, Clifton Childree, Rory Carricino, Peter Exley, Pablo Cano, Jillian Mayer, Adriene Chadwick, Sarafima Sokolov, Ali Spechler, Nino Liguori, Leah Brown, Peter Symonons and Chisseko Kondowe.

Guests will enjoy a selection of beers courtesy of the student ran organization which brews beer on the F.I.U. Biscayne Bay campus. The process and history of each beer, brewed specifically for this event, will be presented and the beers will be paired with culinary creations provided by local chefs including, Slow Food Truck and Taste Buds Catering. There will be several other beers to taste including beers brewed locally and distributed by Brown Distributing. Art experiences will include An Art Exhibition silk screen T-shirt printing, music, photography, and sculpture.

“The Art of Brew is a great example of students supporting the arts in our community,” said Mindy Shrago, founder and executive director of Young At Art. “They have created an exciting, casual, fun event that will benefit our education programs. We hope the community will join us as we celebrate arts appreciation with the next generation. It’s vital for them to follow the legacy.”

Tickets are $30. Proceeds from The Art of Brew benefit Young At Art’s programs for at-risk youth, and the teen center featuring a recording studio in the new facilities.

The FAT Village Arts District spans neighboring galleries and theaters around N.W. First Ave. and N.W. Fifth St. in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The event will be hosted at The Projects Space, 519 NW 1st Ave. Sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information call 424-0085, ext. 23.

The new Young At Art Museum is under construction along I-595/State Road 84

at N.W. 121 Ave. in Davie. Upon completion, Young At Art will be the epicenter of

cultural arts education for families and feature four permanent galleries: GreenScapes,

CultureScapes, WonderScapes and ArtScapes. The YAA Institute Studios will offer

painting/drawing, ceramics, printmaking, digital photography, 4D video design and a

preschool curriculum. In addition to a 10,000 square-foot Broward County Library, the

new Museum will house a National Traveling Exhibition Gallery, Presentation Theater,

Teen Center and Recording Studio, Museum Gift Shop, Creative Café and a preschool

classroom to accommodate 22 children. The Young At Art Museum and Broward

County Library will officially open to the public in May 2012.

For the past 22 years, Young At Art has been a pioneer in the field of art education and has forged new ground by integrating the arts with math, vocabulary, geography, language and multicultural understanding to educate more than one million children and their families.
