With countless locations nationwide and internationally, just why is The Melting Pot so successful? I tend to steer away from large restaurant chains, but a change of pace was in order. Therefore, two good friends and I decided to indulge at this fondue restaurant. Despite its popularity, it seems to fly under the radar. I had not visited the restaurant since childhood, as a matter of fact. While pricing can be less than favorable at over forty dollars per person, a four-course meal leaves your taste buds tantalized and your belt loosened just a few notches. Perhaps The Melting Pot is not known to enough of the population, but, regardless, their cuisine is quite delicious.

I started off with a blackberry sage lemonade which was perfectly flavorful. A tad sweet for my taste, this Melting Pot specialty was mouth-watering and for good reason. Thankfully, the blackberry flavor was fruity as opposed to candy-like and the muddled sage leaves left a nice flavor which permeated throughout my palate.

The Melting Pot’s classic cheddar fondue was made right in front of my friends and me, the subtle flavor of garlic and that of the light-bodied beer was ever present. With apples and a variety of breads and veggies to dip, the appetizer was oh so cheesy.

My friends and I rounded out our first three courses with our fourth and final dessert course, which consisted of a milk chocolate fondue. Items for dipping consisted of strawberries, bananas, marshmallows, brownie bites, rice krispies treats, and silky cheesecake, all of which were fresh and delectable.

All in all, service at The Melting Pot was great, when the server was present. She answered all questions well, but it took a while for her to check up on my table from time to time. The restaurant serves quality food and nicely portioned meat products without scraps. On a scale from one to four mouthfuls, one being poor and four being excellent, The Melting Pot was really quite good, earning three mouthfuls.

Now, a caesar salad is rather common in several restaurants; however, The Melting Pot tops theirs off with parmesan-encrusted pine nuts which were actually rather sweet as well. It was a nice touch, the dressing was tasty, and the croutons? Crispy.

I ordered the classic combination with the different meat and seafood items to be poached in a flavorful vegetable broth.A major portion of the dining experience is left up to individual culinary skills or simply paying attention to the server’s cooking time suggestions. The shrimp went well with the garlic butter sauce while the potatoes, broccoli, and mushrooms went well with the cream cheese sauce. It was evident that the sirloin was marinated because of its profound teriyaki flavor and the Angus sirloin was of excellent quality. The pork had a nice seasoning which was complemented by the broth. My favorite, though, had to have been the herb-crusted chicken. In addition, the curry sauce was light and not too strong in flavor which paired exquisitely with the chicken.
