It’s been a hectic day. Between completing my tasks at work and taking care of my family’s home and business while they are on vacation; I had a pretty full plate and an empty stomach. Lunch break was no longer a singular hour of relaxation and mind dazing but a time to fix everything that was going wrong, however, I am one of those people that needs to be fed and fed well, if not I get cranky.

I needed something quick but scrumptious to fit into my 15 minute allotted eating time. That’s when I decided to walk into the “Daily Melt”, a fast-food type counter that specializes in grilled cheeses. Perfect, I needed something comforting and how more nostalgic can one get then a grilled cheese. When I was a tyke, my babysitter would make me grilled cheeses, with simple kraft cheddar and a tomato. My mom was too Italian to make them for me so it was always a treat. Many years later, but only a few inches taller, I wanted something a little more grown up. I began to scan the menu at the counter with labels like: “The Classics”, “Sweet Melts” and “Signature Sandwiches”. Under signature sandwiches I found what I was looking for, a white truffle butter grilled cheese.

The staff was more than pleasant but I wasn’t sure if they were trying to make up for quality in their sandwiches as many fast food places do. For $6.95, I got a sandwich stuffed with cheddar and provolone cheeses topped with slices of Roma tomatoes which was all being held together by slices of thick texas toast slathered in white truffle butter. The creaminess of the provolone offsetted the sharpness of the cheddar and the tomato was juicy as can be. My hands got a bit greasy and speckled with green herb flakes from the truffle butter but that was a price I was more than willing to pay. This sandwich is a definite try for any foodie on the go in Midtown and a new favorite lunch spot of mine.
