Latteria Italiana Midtown

Latteria Italiana is a Midtown gelato, milk, and cheese shop. This charming Italian cafe serves breakfast, lunch, and coffee in addition to its artisan gelato. The heavenly hazelnut chocolate spread, Nutella, is featured throughout the menu, including Nutella lattes and Nutella croissants. Perhaps, a nutty Italian espresso can revitalize a dull morning.

The establishment offers an array of packaged Italian food products like jams and a variety of cookies and crackers to stock an Italian-lover’s pantry. At the deli, one can find Taleggio, Asiago, and so many more cheeses, not to mention the Prosciutto di Parma. Salads and flat Italian bread sandwiches make up the extensive lunch menu. Vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free? One will find numerous delectable bites, no matter the dietary restrictions. However, it is impossible to enter this slice of Italy and leave without a heaping serving of their beautiful, creamy gelato.

The flavors change periodically, so it never gets boring. Of course, Hazelnut, Chocolate, and Chocolate Hazelnut seem to be permanent residents of the Latteria. The Chocolate gelato is surprisingly dairy free and made with Ecuadorian dark chocolate. Other dairy free offerings include the Strawberry & Lime, which is fruity and tart, and the Pear & Ginger, which has a nice kick to it form the spicy ginger. For an extra sweet non-dairy option, the Honeydew gelato is delicious.

Every flavor is a work of art. Crema All’Italiana is a delightful and lemony flavor made with organic egg yolk that contributes a rich texture and served with crunchy Polenghi biscuits. The Cheesecake gelato is a local favorite that is accompanied by caramelized Italian cherries.

Every gelato is made fresh daily with all natural ingredients and no preservatives. The fluffy, whipped cream Vanilla is made with madagascar vanilla. Stracciatella, the most famous Italian flavor, is made from milk and dark crunchy chocolate. Nut aficionados will be pleased to find, not only Hazelnut, but also, Salt & Pepper Pistachio, Toasted Almonds, Cho-Avola Almonds, and Mediterraneo, which is a medley of almonds, sesame, black figs, and pistachios.

The best part of this cozy cafe is the friendly service and interesting aesthetics. The feel of the decor is authentic Italian from the 1950s era. If gelato is not your style, try the Tiramisu or daily cake offering. There is daily lunch special as well. Take a seat inside or outside to enjoy the Midtown ambiance.
