Dessert has arrived in the form of Fireman Derek’s World Famous Pies in Wynwood. Yup, Derek is a fireman and he is a baker. By day he makes Cookies & Cream Pie, Apple Pie, Cherry Pie, Chocolate dipped Flan and dozens more. By night, he suits up and is a hero in the community. He kicked off his baking dreams in a food truck. After much success and countless first place pies, he has opened up shop in Wynwood.
Today, Derek has his world famous Key Lime Pie for us. The Keys, which are a string of small islands off the coast of South Florida, are known for their Key Lime Pie inspired by the abundance of key limes the islands once had. Infused into the pie are copious amounts of condensed milk that make it fluffy and rich. The texture coats your mouth and the graham cracker crust, similar to that of cheesecake, adds a satisfying crunch. A nice, big dollop of whipped cream brings a sugary balance to the sour key lime. Yet another blissful moment as we all revel in our fifth and final course. The perfect delicious ending to a delicious day.
