Pasion del Cielo in Midtown brings us gourmet coffee as a beautiful and ethnically diverse, coffee bean glorification. Enter the quiet, coffee-lovers space and allow the thick, robust medley of imported, coffee bean scents to caress the nose.
Take your pick. Will it be Honduras, Brazil, Colombia, or Cuba? Whether it is Kona from Hawaii, Pluma Oaxaca from Mexico, or Blue Mountain from Jamaica, each bean is classified on a scale from 1 to 4 on intensity of aroma, affluence of flavor, density of body, and range of acidity. Perhaps, like me, you will be inclined to taste the rich, dark bean of Ethiopia.
As you process the back wall lined with tall mounds of international coffee beans patiently waiting to be freshly grinded and brewed to perfection, be sure to appreciate the lovely baker’s creations: empanadas, muffins, croissants, cakes, cookies, and so much more to accompany a hot, frothy cappuccino.
For the chocolate lover in me, it will be a mocha latte. Skim milk or Soy? Actually, I will take almond milk, please. As I pay the friendly barista, I take note of the nice array of organic teas the establishment offers.
The large sitting space is full of cushiony seats, charming coffee tables, and high tops for the laptop-carrying professionals and students. I decide to watch the coffee-brewing magic. It astounds me to observe the barista taking so much care with each step.
Finally, the barista, or what I should say, Artista, delivers my work of art with a smile. If you are lucky enough to visit during one of Pasion’s down times, maybe you too will witness the foamy artistry of a delicious, Ethiopian espresso and almond milk mocha latte.
