With an array of quirky tacos, killer sweet corn elote and festive drinks, it’s no wonder Huahua’s Taqueria restaurant has become South Beach’s go-to for delicious Mexican fare with a playful spin. Now, diners have five more reasons to hang out at the laid-back taqueria as executive chef, Todd Erickson, debuts the “Huahua’s Tailwagger” collection, his very own line of hot sauces exclusively for the eatery.
“Ever since I was a little kid I’ve always loved the flavor and heat that comes with spice,” says Erickson. “Since we make everything else at Huahua’s in-house, I thought why not add our very own hot sauce collection as well?” Stamped with the image of the taqueria’s mascot Jalapeña, an adorable Chihuahua in a sombrero, each one of the bottled sauces packs its own heat, ranging from mild to eye-watering, combining fresh ingredients with bold flavors to create a signature taste. For a warm, tangy kick try the Serrano y Limon – cider vinegar, serrano pepper, lime zest, onion, garlic, salt and Huahua’s special seasonings. The Hot & Sticky Honey Habanero – rice vinegar, honey, habanero, garlic, corn syrup, salt and seasonings – complements dishes with an addictively sweet, stinging heat; try it with Huahua’s crispy fried chicken taco. For those who aren’t afraid to turn up the heat, the Sangre del Diablo – red wine vinegar, dried arbol chile, Jamaica, salt, seasonings and capsaicin extract – lights up any dish with a punch packing bite. The Jalabañero – cider vinegar, jalapeños, sherry vinegar, onions, habaneros, garlic, agave nectar, salt and seasonings – combines two types of Mexican peppers with caramelized agave for a blend that is naturally sweet and spicy; perfect for the restaurant’s shredded chicken or pulled pork enchiladas. With a rich, smoky taste, the Chipotle-Malt – malt vinegar, chipotle chilies, onion, garlic, agave nectar, salt and seasonings makes for the natural complement to seafood dishes such as the light and refreshing chili-rubbed shrimp or mahi mahi tacos.
While dining in for lunch, dinner or late-night, the new “Huahua’s Tailwagger” collection of hot sauces are plentiful and complimentary. Readily available for purchase at the counter, and priced at $6.99 individually or $30 for the full set, the sauces make for a one-of-a-kind gift just in time for the holidays or treat for the at-home chef who loves cooking with a kick.
