Open since 2009, da Campo Osteria is a hidden gem located just minutes away from the Atlantic Ocean on the Intracoastal Waterway in il Lugano hotel. The welcoming restaurant has been a favorite for local foodies in the know, who frequent da Campo for its fresh Italian cuisine, wide selection of wines, and gorgeous views of the Intercoastal. Now, just in time for the New Year, da Campo is pleased to announce new and exciting changes - Chef Steven Acosta has returned to the kitchen as Executive Chef, bringing with him an array of delectable new menu offerings.
“I’m thrilled to be back in the kitchen at da Campo,” said Acosta. “My goal is for our loyal guests to continue to experience the great food and the warm hospitality this restaurant is known for, as well as introduce it to those who may not have had the opportunity to dine with us yet.”
With a cuisine revolving around fresh ingredients, da Campo’s menu offers a variety of dishes that are traditional, yet elevated and refined. “I fell in love with, and continue to be inspired by, the simplicity of Italian cuisine,” said Acosta, who is Cuban-American. “Authentic Italian cooking places a strong emphasis on using exceptional ingredients and treating them with respect, allowing technique to make them shine.”
New menu items added by chef Acosta include Canelloni di Maiale – a delectable suckling pig confit, made with locally sourced pork from Delray Farms, butter poached arugula, locally sourced chanterelle mushrooms, and sheeps milk ricotta; Roasted Beet & Robiola Cheese Salad – topped with parsley and tossed in red wine vinaigrette; Ravioli di Costola Breve – braised short rib ravioli, with Barolo wine reduction, Calabrese peppers, pomodoro and percorino cheese; Guance di Vitello Brasate – braised veal cheeks served with roasted cauliflower, oven cured tomatoes, cipollini onions, and artichoke chips; and Pollo Arrosto al Funghetto – roasted boneless half chicken atop a melody of caramelized Brussels sprouts, fingerling potatoes, roasted mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes.
The specialty of the house continues to be Fresh Pulled Mozzarella: prepared tableside. Additional popular selections rounding out da Campo’s current menu include Scallops Puttanesca – grape tomatoes, capers, kalamata olives, anchovy with tagliatelle; Lobster Tagliatelle – pan roasted Maine lobster and spicy tomato pomodoro sauce; Spaghetti & Jumbo Meatball – made with garlic pomodoro, fresh basil, and parmesan cheese; and Seared Diver Scallops with truffle potatoes, balsamic onion jam, and salsa verde. In keeping with the authentic cuisine, all pastas are freshly made in-house.
With views of the waterway, da Campo’s ambiance evokes the feeling of a traditional Italian osteria within a sophisticated and contemporary setting. Seating 78, the 1,600 square foot dining room was designed by renowned interior designer, Bob Puccini, and includes a color palette of rich, earthy textures and tones, juxtaposed by a clean lighting design - the perfect complement to the sophisticated yet accessible cuisine.
Seating is also available at the restaurant bar, a perfect spot to enjoy a bowl of pasta and a glass of wine, or at one of the eight seats in front of the open, exhibition style kitchen and one of a kind pizza oven.
A graduate of Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Miami, Acosta first joined the da Campo culinary team as Executive Sous Chef when the restaurant opened in 2008. After leaving in 2009, Acosta continued to hone his skills at refined resort restaurants throughout South Florida, including Cascada Grill at the Turnberry Isle Resort, Vix’s Restaurant at Hotel Victor in Miami and the Solea restaurant at the W South Beach Hotel & Residences.
