Calle Ocho, SW 8th Street in Little Havana, transforms into a Latin party scene during the Calle Ocho Festival. The event began 35 years ago as a way to share the Cuban culture with surrounding communities and has grown into the largest street festival in the United States. Carnaval Miami is a celebration where visitors and locals come together to dance, eat, and party while wearing costumes, watching street performers, and listening to some of the biggest Latin artists. It’s a multi-cultural experience like nothing else in the United States. The festival is a month long celebration beginning February 18th and running through March 11th.
The festivities varies throughout the month but some events you should be sure not to miss are:
· February 18 – Competition for Miss Carnival Miami
· March 5, 6 & 7 – Baptist Health Domino Tournament (held in Domino Park) is a traditional competition between Miami’s domino experts with a cash prize for the winner.
· March 8 – Carnaval Miami Golf Classic at the Melreese Golf Course
· March 11 – El Festival de la Ocho - Calle Ocho Block Party
The festival is fun for the whole family. Paid parking is available throughout Little Havana in local parking lots or local residences. Parking ranges from $10 - $20.
