In no particular order, here are the top 5 places in Miami for the young crowd.

The Broken Shaker, Miami Beach

Born out of a successful pop-up endeavor, Broken Shaker is a homey hangout for a lively and social atmosphere. Outside, the seating borders the pool, but inside, the two story house is sectored into furnished, living room areas and a bar. The menu offers small plates using ingredients from local suppliers and the onsite garden. Their crafty cocktails are the most impressive. Try the Sherry O’terry made with Cocchi Americano, Amontillado Sherry, Hibiscus flower, and fresh lime juice topped with sparkling water. If you are in the mood for a Belgian draft, opt for Floridian beer, Key West Southernmost Wheat. Whatever you choose, you might want to pair your drink with the citrusy Mariquitas served with cilantro mayo.

Broken Shaker opens at 6pm on weekdays, and at 2pm on weekends for those who would prefer a relaxing afternoon over the promise of a vibrant night.

The Social Lubricant Lounge, Wynwood

The Lube is artsy and a hubbub for socializing with hookahs, dancing, and cushioned seating inside, but mostly outside. This outdoor lounge offers sushi along with its revered cocktails. Saturdays are party nights with a DJ and live music. For a more low key experience, The Social Lubricant features an accomplished poet when hosting its weekly Words & Wine event on Wednesdays. Starting at 9pm, enjoy spoken word, slam poetry, and a featured local band. Pass by any night, early or late, for libations and dinner.

Upcoming Event

Mar. 14th at 6pm, The Lube will be throwing its Blank Canvas party to celebrate Art Walk, which takes place the second Saturday of the month.

Purdy Lounge, Miami Beach

For an eclectic, late night dance session or a game of pool by the dimly lit bar, visit Purdy. Kick off your night with a shot of Jameson Irish Whiskey and follow that with heller bock beer, Rogue Dead Guy Ale. The first Sunday of the month, the lounge conducts a drunken spelling bee for the early comers. The winner receives a $50 tab at the bar, so get there at 10pm sharp to sign up. Plus, every time you spell a word correctly and move on to the next round, you get a free shot of Jägermeister. The structure is brilliant. The more words you spell, the more shots you get, the drunker you get, and the more terrible speller you become. Irony is not lost on the Purdy crowd.

Wood Tavern, Wynwood

The Wood is where Miami’s young artists and musicians go to network, talk about the arts, and socialize in a casual environment. As one might expect, there is lots of wood. Mainly in the form of numerous picnic tables that have been decoratively tagged all over. Drinks only at this trendy, outdoor bar that celebrates craft and local beer with an excellent selection of draft and bottles. Try the Rastafarye Ale by New York’s Blue Point Brewing Company, which donates a portion of profits to underprivileged, Caribbean youth through a program called They Often Cry Outreach. If the mood calls for something a bit stronger, try Chile Tequila. This smokey and citrusy drink contains Herradura Silver Tequila with sweet agave, fresh lime juice, spicy green chile sauce, and refreshing sliced cucumbers. Yum.

Come on in, no reservations, no hostess, just find a seat and meet someone new.

Blackbird Ordinary, Downtown

Last, but not least, there is Blackbird. For late nights and two-for-one happy hours, Blackbird can easily make you a regular. Here, you will find all sorts of happy, fun-loving people. Casual and eclectic, the tagged wooden tables with curved leather booths make for cozy seating for a group of six to eight. Pick up a Connect Four box and play between spurts of pretty drinks and random dancing. Their most hyped cocktail is Blackbird. Made with Jeremiah Weed Sweet Tea Vodka, fresh blackberries, lemonade, and served over crushed ice, this sweet treat will have you in the party mood in no time. If you ask the bartender for a fruity drink, this is what he/she will serve you, and it is delicious. However, if a cold brew is more for you, try Cigar City Jai Alai IPA from Tampa, FL. This beer is piney and bitter with lots of hops. You will impress your friends for making such a “hoppy” choice. If you are feeling a bit daring, try El Guajiro made with Don Julio Reposado Tequila infused with french press coffee, tobacco infused agave, and Aphrodite bitters. This one is not for the faint of heart.
