This was my first visit to a gastropub in Miami. These type of pubs specialize in serving and pairing high-end beers and food in a really congenial atmosphere. I went for lunch, with Ms. Issa, and I had a chance to speak to Mr. Jorge Sr., the owner. He took the time to explain the whole concept behind this “joint”. This is an informal establishment where people meet for eating, drinking fine beers, listening to good music and having lots of fun.
We first had a taste of the Sweet Potato Fries served with The Joint’s signature homemade BBQ sauce. These brightly orange fries were full of crispy-crunchy goodness...and the BBQ sauce...wow, what a blast of flavor ! It is made in-house with a combination of 31 herbs & spices, ketchup, paprika and many other secret ingredients. It slowly simmers on the stove for over 2 hours and the result is truly sensational.
We tried the fried wings, Issa had the mild Buffalo and I had the Chimichurri. The Buffalo wings disappeared from Issa’s plate within minutes, leaving only the bare bones behind. I on the other hand, was absolutely smitten and fascinated with the chimichurri wings. The golden wings topped with the chopped fresh parsley, oregano, garlic, olive oil and vinegar sauce just danced on my tongue. I even forgot to eat the celery which is usually my favorite.
The next dish was the Smoking Tacos. I really do love tacos in general and these were far from ordinary. These nicely grilled tacos were loaded with BBQ Pulled Pork, Melted Cheese and Cole Slaw, I have never tasted slaw in a taco before and it added an unexpected crunchiness. The sour cream added the creaminess and the salsa more texture and color.
Of course, we had to try a Burger so we got the BBQ Bacon Cheddar Burger. And what a pretty burger ! The bread was so good-looking, made of pretzel dough from Germany. The BBQ sauce is also featured here in addition to smoked bacon, cheddar cheese and onion “tangles”. This was accompanied by a generous amount of yummy fries
The Joint is a family friendly establishment, open for lunch and dinner. It is as well a sports bar and a music venue later at night, featuring many trendy local bands who entertain until the wee hours of the morning. The Joint also offers a special “beer & food” pairing twice a week, for people interested in learning how beer and food go together.
What can I say about this place?
Hurry up and make a visit soon...you will leave with a smile on your face.
