Pride & Joy BBQ at Wynwood

Pride & Joy BBQ at Wynwood

Of course, before we reach our next restaurant, the much anticipated Pride & Joy BBQ at Wynwood, we have to walk off some of the savory Puerto Rican food we just had. What better way to spend free time than visiting a few art galleries?

“Just ring the doorbell and they’ll let us in,” Mirka says. Mirka is our very knowledgeable and friendly tour guide who also happens to know everyone who is anyone, or, to be more accurate, everyone knows her. The artists welcome her and our group into their galleries, work spaces, and offices. It is one of the most genuine art experiences of the tour. Those interested speak with the artist and others are busy admiring the vast collections of compelling artwork. Soon enough, we are reluctantly whisked away from the beautiful art to our next location: Pride & Joy BBQ.

A string of multicolored lights provide just enough illumination for a relaxed atmosphere. All the furnishings are wooden, and the doors are wide open. The breeze carries juicy smells of cooking meat in and out of the busy dining room. The atmosphere is informal and comfortable. We each pick up a Classic Pulled Pork sandwich and sit at picnic-style tables. The traditional, American white slice of bread at the bottom collects juices from the meat. The added moisture in the bread causes it to fuse with the pork that lies bare on top of the sandwich. At our own individual discretion, we add BBQ sauce on top. The pork is soft and falls apart in the mouth. The simple bread is pleasantly sticky and the BBQ sauce is sweet and tangy. Our party is raving.
