The Poke House, the new fast-casual eatery that opened in Fort Lauderdale in early October, is excited to announce that Jeremy Powell, formerly with SBE Hospitality’s Hyde Beach Kitchen & Cocktails, has taken on the role as Executive Chef. Prior to the restaurant’s opening, Powell worked as a consultant to develop the menu featuring clean, creative Hawaiian-inspired dishes. Realizing his passion for the concept and the talented ensemble behind it, he wanted to be involved on a day-to-day basis and jumped on board with the team permanently.
“We’re thrilled to have Jeremy join the team in a permanent capacity,” says owner Memphis Garrett. “Having him here overseeing the culinary operations will only enhance what we’re doing.”
Powell is an artist at heart with a passion for cooking. With over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, he has worked in all aspects of the restaurant business – from bartending and cooking, to design and concept development. Powell has honed his skills in some of Florida’s most renowned restaurants working under notable James Beard Award-winning chefs.
In 2012, Powell accepted a position as Maki chef at the stylish Katsuya South Beach and also served as trainer in the Kuwait and Dubai locations as well. He then went on to work as Maki chef at the Hyde American Airlines Arena in downtown Miami. In 2015, he transitioned to Banquet Chef at The Restaurant at The Raleigh by acclaimed restaurateur Michael Schwartz. His hard work and dedication landed him his most recent position as Senior Sous Chef at Hallandale Beach’s Hyde Beach Kitchen & Cocktails, where he crafted menus and perfected his culinary skills.
At The Poke House, Powell will deliver a fresh take on serving up the traditional Hawaiian dish to both Fort Lauderdale locals and visitors alike. His creative menu features unique preparations of poke bowls, as well as innovative and outside-the-box specialty dishes.
