In Miami you will sometimes hear people say that ceviche is the “next sushi.” Well if chefs continue making ceviche like Sam Gorenstein at My Ceviche, then I would not say this prediction is far off.
A true “hole-in-the-wall,” most people might not even notice this tiny shop at the top end of Washington Avenue, but those in the know flock here for the fresh and flavorful dishes served every day of the week.
When ordering ceviche you have your choice of protein - local fish, shrimp or octopus – and style – Aji Amarillo, Rocoto, Tradicional, Coconut, Asian and Caribeño. All cevihe is served with sweet potato, yellow corn and spicy popcorn.
Medium aji amarillo (their top seller) octopus ceviche- blend of Florida citrus juices spiced with aji Amarillo, ginger, red onions, cilantro, tomato and mint $11.75
Other menu options include salads fresh from the garden, seafood tacos, stone crab claws and burritos – your choice of fish wrapped in a grilled flour tortilla with coconut-jasmine rice, cilantro, pickled red onions, queso fresco, corn, Mexican crema, choice of salsa, and crispy corn chips. That, along with the aforementioned ceviche, earned this shop spots on the Miami New Times’ “2012 Best” list.
Oh yeah, they deliver. Let’s just say I’m ready to make the move to South Beach.
