Miami Street Food; empanadas. Similar to a turnover, this mostly Latin finger food is usually made from a filling of meat enveloped in a tender and flaky dough. Depending on the culture, it is either baked or fried and customarily served with a side sauce.
The Cuban versions are filled with seasoned meats, usually picadillo (ground beef), and folded into dough and deep-fried. These empanadas may be a bit too seasoned for breakfast, so we recommend that you have these as a midday snack.

Colombian empanadas are usually fried and filled with various ingredients, the standard being shredded beef and potato. The main difference between Colombian empanadas and the rest are that Colombian empanadas have dough made from crispy yellow cornmeal, yielding a crunchier and more flavorful exterior. Venezuelan empanadas use corn flour-based dough and are fried in oil or lard. Fillings can range in anything from cheese to shredded beef, to chicken. Although all are delicious, we recommend the Pabellon, an empanada filled with beef, beans, cheese, and plantains. The plantains provide a sweetness that makes the Pabellon a unique experience when it comes to empanadas.
