La Tagliatella is a group of restaurants scattered worldwide dedicated to serving authentic and delectable Italian cuisine in a sophisticated atmosphere. The Coral Gables location is one of the more breathtaking restaurants in the area, with wood floors, ochre-stained walls, hanging chandeliers, and brown leather cushioned chairs. Walking in leaves you with an impression of entering an Italian palace, as feelings of grandeur emanate right from the doorstep.
Although the décor itself is reason enough to visit La Tagliatella, the food is on par with the ambiance created by the furniture. You can start with a simple bowl of nuts when sitting at the bar. The bowl of nuts at La Tagliatella is completely different than what you may be accustomed to at your neighborhood bar. I counted more than five varieties of nuts in this flavorful bowl, from cashews, to walnuts, to peanuts, to brazilian tree nuts. It was a perfect way to commence my meal. Handcrafted meatballs served with your choice of sauce are portioned reasonably enough to be considered an appetizer but not enough to fill you up for the other courses. The meatballs are made with a blend of sausage and beef and are seasoned with garlic, oregano, and Grana Padano, an earthy parmesan-like cheese that adds to the heartiness of the beefy balls. Out of the two sauces that are offered, I would recommend the Pesto Rosso Pana. Although the Spicy Napoletano sauce is fresh-tasting with a bite of red chili flakes, the pesto is herby, cheesy, and amplified with a touch of cream that leaves a lingering richness on your tongue.
The Tagliatella Pizza is deserving of the Tagliatella name. Made with tomato, mozzarella, fried eggplant, Parmigiano- Reggiano, honey, and balsamic glaze, this pizza is the epitome of contrasting flavors. You get funkiness and earthiness from the parm, richness from the mozzarella, freshness from the tomato, beefiness from the eggplant, and sweetness from the honey and balsamic glaze. Placed atop a cracker-like crust, this pizza is destined to be devoured in one sitting from how deceptively light and delectable it is. If The Tagliatella Pizza has too much going on for you, the Margherita is a great way to go. Just like all Margerita pizzas, this choice is composed of mozzarella, fresh tomato and basil, but it is executed well enough to be considered a textbook example of the Neapolitan style. The dough is made with a blend of two different flours and is baked in traditional Italian ovens, resulting in a crisp and flavorful crust that holds up to the toppings but does not dominate the overall package.
Whether you’re looking for satisfying Italian food or a comforting atmosphere, La Tagliatella is the place for you. They cater to all a guests needs and through their serviceable staff, guarantee an experience that will make you wonder when you’ll come back right after stepping foot out the door.
