Miami, FL - Pairing relationship-based, socially-conscious sourcing practices with environmentally-friendly roasting processes, Great Circle Coffee is Miami’s newest coffee roaster, quickly gaining attention for their single-origin roasts, seasonal blends and award-winning branding. As Miami continues to grow as a new American hub for specialty coffee roasters, founder Sergio Boppelaims to make impactful contributions across the coffee supply chain while delivering the highest quality beans to local cafes, hotels and restaurants. Socially conscious and strategically-located on the edge of the international coffee belt, Great Circle is poised to establish a new standard in American coffee roasting.
“Great Circle began as a dream to start something meaningful,” says Boppel, who established the company to provide Miami with a unique coffee experience and help support and incentivize the best quality coffee at its origin. “We feel that best way to make an impact is by helping to develop and grow the market for premium, specialty coffees. Strong demand supports long-term supplier relationships which allows farmers to focus on quality.”
Currently, Great Circle’s product portfolio consists of three lines, featuring a variety of organic offerings. Handcrafted blends are developed by targeting specific flavor profiles and combining seasonal coffees that result in consistent, year-round products. Their single-origin coffees are special small-lots sourced based on seasonal availability, offering coffee enthusiasts distinct sensory experiences based on attributes such as origin, processing method and altitude at which the coffee was grown. Many of Great Circle’s beans are sourced from Guatemalan and Central American producers, due to strong ties in the region, in addition to coffees from East Africa, South America and Southeast Asia. Great Circle also offers blends specifically designed for cold brew style coffees, perfect for Miami’s year-round heat.
The Great Circle Coffee roastery is strategically situated to provide responsive service to clients throughout Miami. Located in Little Haiti, where nationally recognized galleries, restaurants, and boutiques are helping turn the neighborhood into the next Wynwood, Great Circle plans to regularly offer coffee tastings and cuppings. Boppel and his team partner with clients to develop specialized coffee programs and proprietary blends, acquire equipment and train teams of baristas on beverage preparation and quality control. With quality and taste at the heart of everything Great Circle does, packaging and design remain an integral part of the brand. Just a few months after launching the business, Great Circle won the prestigious 2016 MITX “Marketing on a Dime” award, and has also been featured in publications such as The Dieline, Package Inspiration and Packaging of the World.
Drawing on four generations of coffee-growing knowledge, learned through his family in Guatemala, Boppel carefully evaluated markets, processes, and technologies, while forging tangible relationships with coffee producers. With a focus on training and education, Great Circle delivers coffee to each individual client in conjunction with the necessary knowledge-base to brew and prepare each style of coffee. Recently, Great Circle helped establish the coffee program at Nativ Café at the luxury 1 Hotel on South Beach, utilizing a variety of their roasts, including espresso, drip coffee and cold brew.
Founded on the idea that “high tides lift all boats,” Great Circle proudly supports meaningful initiatives and organizations such as the Café Femenino Foundation. Founded in 2004, CaféFemenino empowers women with social and economic independence through agricultural and coffee-specific efforts. Today, more than 4,000 coffee-growing women worldwide benefit from the program, seeing improvements in healthcare, education, access to micro-loans, and infrastructure. In-line with their commitment to sustainable practices, Great Circle utilizes the innovative, Loring roasting system, often referred to as “the Tesla of coffee roasting”, which generates lower CO2 emissions and uses less energy compared to traditional roasting machines.
Great Circle Coffee is currently available by the bag or via monthly subscription online at greatcirclecoffee.com, along with a selection of premium coffee supplies and Great Circle merchandise. Coffee enthusiasts in Miami can get a taste at the 1 Hotel’s Nativ Café, W Hotel, or buy bottles of Great Circle cold brew at Perricone’s Market in Brickell.
