Chef Angelo Elia Brings Italian Countryside Christmas To The Big Apple

South Florida’s Italian Culinary Maestro to Cook at the James Beard House on Tuesday, December 4

On Tuesday, December 4, 2012, just as holiday season kicks into full gear, Chef Angelo Elia of Casa D’Angelo fame, will bring the regionally-inspired cuisines of his native Italy to the James Beard House with a sumptuous Christmas in the Italian Countryside dinner.

Known for his masterfully prepared Tuscan fare, Elia, along with executive chef Rickie Piper and sommelier Koen Kersemanas, has crafted a tantalizing menu to celebrate the holiday traditions and cuisine of the bountiful Italian countryside. The six-course dinner begins with passed hors d’oeuvres such as elk tartare with White Alba Truffle shavings and endive salad; black cod-mortadella croquettes and Tomino cheese-wild mushroom arancini.

Each stellar dinner course will be paired with wines carefully selected by Kersemans, who has garnered 12 consecutive “Best of Award of Excellence” by Wine Spectator for the flagship Casa D’Angelo in Fort Lauderdale. The menu is set to showcase dishes such as pheasant-farro soup with crispy black kale; carnaroli risotto with taleggio and White Alba Truffles; and panko and Tuscan herb-crusted elk chop with roasted porcini-fingerling potato medley. To conclude the evening in decadent style, guests will indulge in a chestnut-dark chocolate torte with persimmons and bourbon-vanilla sauce.

While in New York City, Chef Elia will be a guest on Sirius XM’s Martha Stewart Living Radio’s Morning Living at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5. He will also be the featured chef at the Hearst Café 57 that day from noon – 2:00 p.m.

Tickets are still available for the six-course dinner with wine pairings at the James Beard House and pre-dinner reception for just $130/person for James Beard members and $170/person for non-members. Tickets can be purchased online: http://www.jamesbeard.org.

Founded in 1986, the James Beard Foundation is dedicated in celebrating, nurturing and preserving America’s diverse culinary heritage and future. A cookbook author and teacher with an encyclopedic knowledge about food, James Beard, who died in 1985, was a champion of American cuisine. He helped educate and mentor generations of professional chefs and food enthusiasts. Today, The Beard Foundation continues in the same spirit by administering a number of diverse programs that include educational initiatives, food industry awards, scholarships to culinary schools and publications and by maintaining the historic James Beard House in New York City’s Greenwich Village as a “performance space” for visiting chefs.

Angelo Elia is the highly praised Italian-born chef/restaurateur whose impressive roster of dining establishments continues to expand. The latest addition, which opened in December of 2011 is D’Angelo Trattoria just off Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach. The restaurant joins the three Casa D’Angelos in Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and Paradise Island/Bahamas, as well as D’Angelo-Pizza, Wine Bar and Tapas in Ft. Lauderdale. A second outpost of D’Angelo Pizza, Wine Bar and Tapas will open in Weston, Florida December 2012. Chef Elia’s creed of always putting the customer first and delivering the best possible quality in both food and service has certainly paid off in spades, with various awards, accolades and a loyal customer base.
