DSC_0677Overlooking a magnificent golf course in the ever-growing city of Doral, BLT Prime is offering one of the finest Miami Spice menus in the city. Overseen by Chef Dustin Ward, the kitchen gets deep into the Spice spirit and provides an amazing selection that not only saves you money, but also presents you with a delectable meal.

The setting is elegant steak house, with dark wood table and leather-cushioned seats accompanied by dim lighting, warm ambiance, and professional service. Every meal at BLT Prime starts with complimentary Gruyere Popovers, a massive substitution to the overdone breadbasket that just serves as filler. Here, the Popovers are not an afterthought, and instead provide you with a slight glimpse of what is the come.

Appetizer selections include Housemade Ricotta Gnocchi and Speck Ham with Fresh Mozzarella. As satisfying as the latter was, you’d make a mistake in not ordering the Ricotta Gnocchi. Using ricotta cheese instead of egg as a binder, these potato gnocchi were impossibly light, pillowy, flavor-packed, and the perfect vessel for the divine olive oil and pesto used to finish the dish. For entrée, you are given the choice between Flank Steak and Seared Red Snapper. The steak, which comes from Creekstone Farms and is served in a cast iron skillet, comes with a red wine reduction that adds umami to an already flavorful dish. The portion is substantial and was tender, cooked to a perfect medium, and seasoned aggressively, just as any steak should be. The seared local snapper tasted of garlic and thyme, a classic combination that can be great when executed well. Chef Ward’s kitchen executed the fish expertly, coming out with a crisp skin while still retaining a moist and flakey texture.

Desserts, which included a choice between Apple Strudel and Chocolate Pot de Crème, were satisfying and a perfect end to an already incredible meal. Toasted pecans and maple ice cream sit alongside the Apple Strudel, making for one of the most eye-catching strudel presentations I’ve ever seen. The strudel comes baked as a pouch of crispy puff pastry encasing caramel-like apples to make for an indulgent dessert. The Pot de Crème, which is served in a martini glass, was not as visually striking but was just as delicious. Served with some sea salt for sprinkling, the pot de crème somehow eluded the main problem that usually comes with bittersweet chocolate desserts. Instead of being heavy and one note, this pot de crème was complex and made me keep on dipping my spoon even though I was already stuffed.

Sometimes, restaurants use Miami Spice as a way to get people through the door but don’t actually provide patrons with meals that are worthy of the price point. This is not the case with BLT Prime, as everything was skillfully prepared and absolutely tasty. Take of advantage of the next two months and make it out. You won’t be sorry.
