SAVOR NATIONAL BARBECUE MONTH MAY 22 AT CANTINA BEACH WITH INCOMPARABLE MEXICAN BBQ FOUND NOWHERE ELSE

WHAT:

Legend has it that 200 years ago a Lebanese family settled in Puebla, Mexico and brought the recipe for “doner kabobs” from their homeland. Over time, the specialty kabob incorporated Mexico’s spices and flavors, used soft flour shells instead of pita and became Tacos Arabes (also known as Tacos Orientales), famous in Puebla and rarely seen outside its city limits.” The recipes are carefully guarded to this day (similar to our stateside barbecue competitions), including those of Chef Andres Parlange, who created his own recipe using cilantro, cayenne peppers, chipotle peppers and cumin, which he serves at Cantina Beach, an oceanfront hideaway known for its Coastal Mexican cuisine.

WHEN:

MAY 22: To celebrate National Barbecue Month, Chef Andres Parlange is creating Tacos Arabes with a Barbecue Flair. He starts with finest prime ground beef and New York cut strip loin, slowly barbecues it on a fire spit outside the oceanfront Cantina Beach, adds his own chipotle barbecue sauce, carves it to order and serves it with tortillas, smoked jalapeno sauce, cilantro and onions ($16).

“Puebla is known for its Tacos Arabes,” says Chef Parlange. Never have I seen them anywhere in the U.S.”

WHERE:

The Ritz-Carlton, Key Biscayne, Miami.

The city’s only oceanfront Coastal Mexican restaurant presents innovative menu additions and daily specials inspired by Mexico’s culinary regions and created by Chiapas, Mexico-native Chef de Cuisine, Andres Parlange. Vibrant hues of deep red and indigo blue alongside Mexican accents create a special hideaway feel at the large, thatched roof restaurant. Plush lounges, tiki torches and a fire pit complement the natural oceanfront setting, which is so captivating in its beauty that the island’s first settlers named the location, “favorite path of the rising moon.” Tequilier (tequila specialist trained in Mexico’s Agave growing regions) Heriberto Ovideo offers recommendations on the restaurants 85 premium tequila selection, the largest 100 percent Agave tequila collection in Miami.

Open daily, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. (Tacos Arabes served daily).
