Most people think of South Beach as a place for fun and partying, but there’s also romance and intimacy, which is found at restaurant Pied a Terre in the Cadet Hotel. The restaurant, which opened in February 2011 is the first new addition to the historic 1940’s boutique hotel and has adapted their motto as being, “The Most Quaint Hotel in the Thriving Art Deco District.” Another new addition and key element to their ambience is executive Chef Andrew Balick. Chef Balick brings with him a wide and varied background in the culinary world and extensive training in fine-dining cuisine. “I’m well versed in classic and modern styles of cuisine as well as having a strong background in classic style of techniques.” After spending six years at acclaimed restaurant Azul, Chef Balick said the most important thing is for guests to have a memorable meal.
The quaint and intimate restaurant, which seats 35 guests, consists of friendly, knowledgeable servers who are eager to please. “I want guests to feel excited when dining at our establishment,” said Balick. He keeps their intrigue by providing an evolving menu. The contemporary Mediterranean menu features seasonal ingredients and local products that push the boundary for cuisine. Menu items such as confit duck leg tortellini flavored by butternut squash, ginger and hazelnut or swordfish ‘‘steak frites” with fennel dusted white polenta fries, chorizo and pepperonata to name a few. An assortment of unique items and flavors that is complementary. To get a full range of the talent of Chef Balick he suggests a tasting menu, which features signature offerings and six courses for a reasonable $85.
