1500° At Eden Roc Renaissance Miami Beach

NEW MENU, NEW DRINKS, NEW SENSATIONS:

WINTER HEATING UP AT 1500° AT EDEN ROC RENAISSANCE MIAMI BEACH

Things are hotter than ever at 1500°, the acclaimed farm-to-table restaurant with a steakhouse sensibility at Eden Roc Renaissance Miami Beach. Entering its 3rd year at the historic resort, the talented food & beverage team at 1500° – executive chef Paula DaSilva, sous chefs Tony Velazquez and Adrienne Grenier along with mixologist Rafa Dulanto – have unveiled a host of new temptations, sure to set taste buds tingling this winter. “Since we’re very dedicated to seasonality our menu is ever-changing,” says DaSilva, whose work helped make 1500° one of Esquire’s “Best New Restaurants in America” in 2011. “But, coming out of the holidays is a perfect time to introduce new drinks and dishes. Our regulars are always looking for something they haven’t had before and we have the opportunity to dazzle guests from out of town, many who dined with us last season. We want to make sure everyone finds something new and delicious.”

Suffice to say “new” and “delicious” are not in short supply as options abound, beginning with a selection of Share plates and traditional First course selections. A luscious chickpea cassoulet ($11) is a Share standout, brimming with chunks of house-made sausage, duck confit, roasted tomatoes and topped with a fried farm fresh egg. First courses include: creamy wild mushroom soup ($10), topped with crispy shiitakes; baked goat cheese and citrus salad ($15) – a golden medallion of goat cheese served with a salad of Swank Farms greens tossed with local honey, winter citrus wedges, brown butter almonds and a citrus vinaigrette; a to-die-for duck carbonara ($15) and house-smoked duck breast salad ($15) with Green Dragon apple, Florida Bleu Sunshine cheese and pomegranate vinaigrette.

New Entrees include grilled black grouper ($30) with Beluga lentils, Benton’s smoked bacon, roasted root vegetables and pea tendrils, as well as a killer paella for two ($70). Inspired by DaSilva’s recent trip to Spain, her paella overflows with shrimp, clams, fish, octopus, chicken, chorizo and comes topped with a farm fresh egg. A diverse list of Desserts ($9) round out the new delights. They range from warm apple rum cake with rum caramel sauce and cinnamon ice cream and a banana cream tart to S ’mores in a jar – house-made marshmallow, smoked chocolate peanut pudding and Graham cracker ice cream to toffee crème brûlée.

For imbibers, mixology geeks and Miami’s cocktail set, the restaurant has also introduced a menu of new drinks ($13-$18), created by resident “cocktail queen” Rafa Dulanto. “She has an amazing palate and has created a great list of drinks that work beautifully alone or paired with our food,” says DaSilva of Dulanto.

The cocktail menu offers something for every taste, with the use of herbal syrups, made in-house, delivering fresh, vibrant flavors that play to the restaurant’s farm-to-table spirit. Standouts include The Good Life (Don Julio reposado, Frangelico, Thai chili cinnamon syrup, lemon); Acai Mojito (Leblon cachaca-infused acai juice, muddled lime, soda); Eden Roc Dusk (Ciroc vodka, fresh pomegranate seeds, apple juice) and the Refresher (Belvedere citron, thyme cardamom syrup, grapefruit bitters, lemon).

Signature dishes and drinks remain, such as pork belly tacos; charred Brussels sprouts with mustard crème fraîche; hickory-rubbed Palmetto Creek pork loin chops; chicken with Carolina rice grits and its sumptuous array of steaks, sides and its award-winning Local Farmer’s Delight – Chef’s selection of seasonal vegetables and specialty grains.

The new menu is only the beginning for what DaSilva and her intrepid team has in the works for the New Year. She’ll soon roll out a series of specialty dinners at the restaurant’s central communal table as well as a few themed menus sure to tantalize.

1500° at Eden Roc Renaissance Miami Beach seats 160 in the elegant but welcoming dining room and an additional 40 on the serene poolside patio. Since opening in October 2010, it’s received a steady stream of accolades and critical acclaim, including being cited as the only Florida restaurant by Esquire magazine in its “Best New Restaurants in America” feature in 2011. It is located at 4525 Collins Avenue on Miami Beach. The restaurant serves dinner nightly beginning at 6:00 p.m. Telephone: (305) 674-5594; www.1500degreesmiami.com.
