Valentine’s Day falls within American Heart Month and this perfect-for-two whole grain breakfast idea will show your valentine just how much you care. Consuming whole grains is not only linked to reducing the risk of heart disease, but also improving the risk factors associated with it, like weight and blood pressure.   • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 4 slices of firm whole wheat bread
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste


Melt 1 table-spoon of butter in the skillet over medium high heat. Add 2 of the bread slices with the holes already cut out and also add the circles (or hearts!) and fry until golden brown. Flip with a spatula and add one egg to each hole and cook to desired doneness. Repeat with the remaining two slices of bread and eggs.

Remove the egg toast to a plate and garnish with chopped parsley, salt and fresh pepper. Top with the toasted circles and serve at once.
