Concrete Beach Brewery is celebrating the kick-off of its latest What Brew You?contest with the release of the last winning beer, Qué Quat, a kumquat Berliner Weisse. The new limited-release beer is on tap in the Social Hall only, while supples last.
Description: Much like the traditional Berliner Weisse, kumquats are small in size but big in flavor. This light-bodied, highly effervescent ale blends citrus and crisp acidity up front that leads into a back and forth exchange of sweetness and tartness. The intense flavor dissipates and finishes dry yet refreshing.
Appearance: Veiled, with a pale, straw color and dense white head.
Aroma: Intense citrus rind followed by notes of sourdough.
Taste: Light-bodied and effervescent; a sharp sourness upfront, balances fruity sweetness and citrus tartness. The finish is dry and refreshing.
Malt: 2-row, white and un-malted wheat.
Hops: Tettnang
Other: Kumquat puree and juice, lactobacillus.
Yeast: Ale
ABV: 3.7%
IBU: 5
The latest What Brews You? contest kicked off on February 1st. The contest is a call out for fun, unique ideas for beer that embody the spirit and flavors of Miami and show that beer can be brewed with practically anything, from mango, to chocolate, to elderflower. The first wining beer was mojito cream ale, for example.
The winner will have the opportunity to work closely with the Concrete Beach brew team to finalize the recipe and plan for the official brew. As part of the contest, he or she will also receive a Concrete Beach Kegerator, tap handle and a case of Concrete Beach pint glasses.
