Sundays are for brunch. Even my hardest partying friends can make a noon brunch call. Brunch has evolved from the traditional buffet style assortment of breakfast, lunch and dinner items to smaller menus with choices to be made, resulting in less food at times, but more quality dishes. Some days though, you just need to have the ‘all you can eat’ option.
At Prime fish they have managed to keep the quality of cooking in small batches intact while feeding the masses. The truffled macaroni & cheese was a nice surprise as ‘truffle’ and ‘buffet’ are rarely found together in the same sentence. Prime rib with a perfect crust, citrus grilled salmon & wilted kale salad with sweet potatoes (we are on the health conscious beach after all) are dishes that stood out for me. There are alot of options, so pace yourself. Everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I always expect at least one disappointing dish on a buffet line. All very important factors for me when dining buffet style.
The desserts were varied and plentiful, and they were ALL good. With this many options I was sure at least one would suck. Not so. Even my least favorite dessert of all time, bread pudding, was really good. The caramel flan was my absolute favorite although I sampled at least a dozen cakes, pies, and pastries. Come hungry and save room for dessert.
Our champagne glasses were never empty thanks to an attentive wait staff that went above and beyond. Beyond the 3:30 last call that is… Although outside seating during a Miami summer sounds dreadful to us locals, thanks to a canopy of trees and a few strategically placed fans you would never know the temperature outside was actually 128 degrees with 100% humidity. I suspect being a block away from the ocean helps also.
Prime Fish delivers on quantity as well as quality. Its location on 1st and Collins Avenue makes it an ideal spot to brunch and then head out to the beach or for a nice walk around SoFi (new moniker for area south of fifth street). The outside patio is a great place to sit and watch the beautiful people and beautiful cars they drive. A great way to enjoy South Beach on a Sunday.
Brunch is $49 and includes coffee and unlimited mimosas, bellinis, prosecco, and bloody-marys. It is served from 11am-4pm which is an hour past most restaurants’ brunch hours.
