One of our city’s most notable restaurateurs is Jose Mendin from the Pubbelly family. He oversees some of the most popular restaurants in town, with Pubbelly, Pubbelly Sushi, Pubbelly Steak, Barceloneta, and Macchialina under his belt. This ambitious individual’s first project was his much-loved Pubbelly, an Asian Gastropub that was the first of its kind in Miami. This tavern-like restaurant serves true gastropub fare such as terrine and braised dishes, all served family style. Because of his work running the kitchen at Pubbelly, Mendin was semifinalist for Best Chef:South. The Dates avec Chorizo ($9) have a cult-like following, combining a taste of candy-like fruit, goat cream, and bacon.
