Chef Gavin Pera has drawn accolades for his work as executive chef of Burlock Coast at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale. Chef Fabien Gnemmi is the hotel’s secret weapon in the kitchen; the machine behind the bustling property’s daily food & beverage and massive banquet and special event operations. The two are a culinary dream team and close collaborators but on Thursday, July 27 the duo will go toque-to-toque in a special one-night-only Chef Battle. “Competition in the kitchen is serious,” says Pera. “It keeps you on your toes and your skills sharp. Fabien and I live to push and challenge each other and this Chef Battle is our way of having a little fun while we’re looking to show each other up.”
Open to the public, the dinner will task the chefs to create three dishes each – appetizer, entrée and dessert – for a six course dinner that cannot be beat, so to speak. Diners will try each course and vote for their favorite with the winning chef taking two out of three rounds. To add a little drama, the dining room will be turned into a close captioned “kitchen stadium” with large TVs brought in for diners to watch things heat up in the kitchen. The event, priced at $75 per person (excluding tax and gratuity) begins at 7 p.m. sharp with a complimentary cocktail reception, dinner at 7:30 p.m. A VIP seating option with paired wines will also be on offer for $95 per person. Joining the public in crowning the evening’s top toque will be three distinguished judges: YELP Broward Community Manager Blue Arausz; Miami New Times food scribe Nicole Danna and VENICE magazine publisher Carlos Suarez.
