Angelo Elia, the successful chef/owner behind Casa D’Angelo restaurants, and the newly-opened D’Angelo Trattoria in Delray Beach, will be wowing New York gourmets next week when he brings a Winter Truffle Extravaganza to the historic James Beard House on Tuesday, December 6, 2011.

For the dinner, Elia, with chef de cuisine Rickie Piper, has created a decadent menu combining luxurious winter truffles with handmade pastas, delicious meats – even a dessert! The ode-to-truffle begins with a reception on the garden patio with passed hors d’oeuvres that range from seared sea scallops flavored by black truffle butter, foie gras and fig puree to ostrich fan-fillet tartare with a black truffle-mustard sauce.

For dinner, guests will relish five-courses, inspired by the Roman countryside, each carefully paired with wine. The menu includes: porcini-aged fontina gratin seasoned with shaved white Alba truffles, tagliolini with buffalo butter and shaved white Alba truffles; and ricotta-truffled egg yolk in a raviolone with puréed yellow squash seasoned by shaved white Alba truffles and crispy artichoke; and pan-roasted bison tenderloin with white truffle butter. The dessert course is a millefoglie pastry with truffle honey, filled with ricotta, anisette cream and garnished with caramelized oranges.

The dinner takes place on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at 7 p.m. The James Beard House is located at 167 West 12th Street in New York City. The cost is $155/person for James Beard members; $205/person for non-members. Limited seats, still available, can be purchased via phone by calling (212) 627-2308.
