Wapo Taco!, the Mexico City taqueria making waves in Hallandale Beach and Coral Gables by way of its authentic, always fresh, incredibly tasty appetizers, tacos, specialties, sides and desserts, is celebrating Mexican Independence Day on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at both locations with a festive all-day Happy Hour featuring two-for-one Mexican beers and micheladas, as well as two gourmet taco specials, created by Chef David Munoz.
The Taco de Lengua ($9.99 for two tacos) boasts tender 24 hour braised beef tongue, topped with avocado, cilantro, tomatoes and crema de rancho (signifying an edible Mexican flag), over warm corn tortillas and served with a side of smoky housemade Salsa Morita – chipotle, tomatillo and morita peppers. The not-to-missTaco de Chile Relleno con Nogada ($10.99 for two tacos) is freshly made tortilla filled with a roasted cuaresmeno pepper (jalapeño), stuffed with tasty picadillo – a mixture of ground beef, dried fruit, ground nuts and spices – and topped withpomegranate seeds, parsley, and a walnut-based cream sauce, called nogada, again representing the three colors of the Mexican flag. The Mexican Independence Day festivities carry on all throughout the day at both Wapo Taco! locations, and the regular menu will also be offered.

Wapo Taco!’s roots spread back to 1962 Mexico City, Mexico, when owners opened Taqueria El Farolito, a prolific locals favorite that now has 25 locations throughout the bustling Central American city. Cousins Francisco and Luis Musi, whose family’s business pioneered the method of charcoal grilling tacos (creating Tacos al Carbón, now a staple of Mexico City dining), are obsessed with staying true to what they feel made their family’s taquerias so successful (fresh, quality ingredients, daily made-from-scratch salsas, marinades, stews and tortillas). Although time-consuming and labor intensive, they vow to endure using these ideologies, thereby serving mouthwatering staples such as all-natural corn tortillas made fresh on a comalgriddle from Mexico, fresh meat cooked atop an always lit charcoal grill, authentic pastor roasted on a spit fire, real Mexican crema and more. Utilizing their family’s time-perfected recipes that incorporate complex, multi-layered flavors that stem from the use of a variety of chilies, herbs and spices, ancient methodology, and seasoned grill men brought straight from Mexico City, the essence of Mexico’s street food is captured in every bite. To wash it all down, the masters at Wapo Taco! offer traditional Mexican soft drinks as well as Micheladas ($4.99) including the Clásica – ice, lime juice and choice of beer in a salt rimmed glass; Michelada Cubana – iced beer, lime juice and Maggi, Worcestershire and Cholula sauces in a salt rimmed glass; and Michelada con Clamato – iced beer with lime and Clamato juices, Maggi, Worcestershire and Cholula sauces in a salt rimmed glass.
