What an experience we had yesterday when we went to The Federal restaurant with Mirka. We were having margaritas at Mercadito with people from Buro (our office) in midtown Miami. We were going to go to Viernes culturales (cultural Fridays) in Little Havana but alcohol hit our veins and we don't drink and drive and because Little Havana is far, Mirka mentioned this new place that her sister said it was so good so we went to The Federal restaurant for dinner.
We walked in and we were lucky I think as we got one of the few tables left available. They have sitting outside but with the summer heat everyone was inside, also I liked mirka's comment about - that it is a good sign that people are not sitting outside as they were probably all locals.
We started ordering all these different dishes. We ordered the crispy brussels sprouts which they were insanely well cooked. Crispy in the outside and juicy in the inside. I have to say these Brussels sprouts were better than my now "ex" favorite at Sugarcane.
Then we ordered the jar-o-duck. It came with toasted bread, whipped cream and two slices of what looked like home made duck sausage. The flavor of the duck pate was condensed yet not overpowering, it was ducky in a very good way. The side two slices which was also duck (based on how it tasted) were a very different ducky taste, much stronger but had a powerful strong taste of cinnamon, I had never tasted something like that before. I think this dish was decadent at its best.
We also ordered two salads which were both amazingly delicious, the vinaigrette was perfect, not too salty, not too oily... Just pure perfection.
The ambiance was just what Mirka and I enjoy. The light was semi -low and not loud at all (which for me makes all the difference).
Today I have a date and I made a reservation to go back. I think he likes the same type of cuisine and restaurants as I do because he mentioned that he likes Michael's Genuine and Mandolin in the design district, and I agree those two are great choices, well, The Federal restaurant is up there with Michael's genuine so I think he is going to like it, after all I supposed to know where good food can be found in Miami so we'll see.
