Thompson Miami Beach

One of the region’s hottest new hotels, Thompson Miami Beach, offers an eclectic collection of stellar dining and imbibing experiences. Among its offerings is 1930s House, an inviting cocktail hideaway that has been quietly wowing locals and visitors alike since opening in December 2014. Ready to position itself as a premiere destination for creative hand-crafted cocktails and celebrated cuisine, the historic Spanish-inspired lounge officially launches its full culinary, beverage and entertainment line-up on Friday, April 10th. For the launch, Thompson Miami Beach culinary partner and James Beard Award winning chef Michelle Bernstein will introduce a pop-up of her beloved Spanish tapas restaurant, Sra. Martinez, inside 1930s House. The venue will also now offer weekly entertainment featuring guest DJs and live Cuban music.

“The 1930s House is so rich in history, design and personality and perfectly complements the Sra. Martinez spirit,” says Chef Bernstein, Thompson Miami Beach’s executive chef and culinary partner. “Now, hotel guests, locals and visitors seeking avant garde cocktails and global small plates with a laid-back ambiance will have the perfect destination for this distinctive culinary and cocktail experience.”

At the pop-up, aficionados can enjoy a delectable menu of small plates inspired by Sra.’s successful run that made the restaurant onto Esquire magazine’s list of “Best Restaurants in America” in 2008. A selection of crudos, carpaccios and ceviches will include Hamachi ($20) garnished with candied jalapeño, avocado puree, and pomegranate seeds; Hog Fish Carpaccio ($16) with pomelo pearls, crispy young ginger and ponzu; and Classic Peruvian Ceviche ($16) with rocoto peppers, seafood, lime, and crispy corn. Gourmets can also enjoy an assortment of imported cheeses and charcuterie; flavor-packed Spinach & Feta Croquetas ($12) including; and snacks such as the Crispy Artichokes ($14) with a lemon-coriander dipping sauce; Lardo-Wrapped Figs ($14) stuffed with goat cheese; and the Sea Urchin Open-Face Sandwich (MP) with soy-ginger butter.

At 1930’s House, cocktails are key and created by Thompson Miami Beach’s critically acclaimed Director of Beverage Michael MacDonnell, who has earned a reputation for developing cutting-edge cocktail programs across the U.S. Creative libations ($14-$17) inspired by Miami – and its surrounding neighborhoods and destinations – include the Hemingway Royal—with Facudo Bacardi Neo, Luxardo Magaschino Liqueur, Prosecco, lime and grapefruit juice; and the Hialeah Sling—with Brugal Light rum, Cherry Herring pineapple juice, triple sec, fresh-squeezed lime and Angostura bitters, topped with a splash of club soda. In addition, imbibers will be able to enjoy select favorites from Sra. Martinez’s bar menu such as the Buena Vista with Hendrick’s gin, St. Germain elderflower liqueur, fresh cucumber, mint and lemon juice. The beverage menu also features a selection of craft beers as well as fine wines and Champagnes by the bottle or by the glass.

New weekly entertainment at 1930s House features guest DJs and live Cuban music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday starting at 9pm. On Thursdays and Saturdays, guests can enjoy house DJs spinning old-school hip hop and contemporary sounds. Hip shakers will rejoice for Casa Cubana Fridays at 9pm, when authentic Cuban band Raiko and Renoir play classic Cuban beats and crowd favorites.

Built in the 1930s as a single family home, originally across the street from Thompson Miami Beach, the 1930s House was moved to the hotel’s backyard area in the early 2000s. The Mediterranean-inspired, indoor-outdoor space is not a restaurant or a bar, but instead a unique hybrid offering the best of both worlds. Upon entering, guests will find influences from Spain throughout – orange clay floors, an original limestone fireplace and a hacienda-style bar with early 20th century Havana-style furnishings in a palette of rich reds, blacks, browns and other deep tones. Offering indoor lounge and bar seating, as well as al fresco dining in the garden, the 1930s House is a convivial gathering place.

The 1930s House Sra. Martinez pop-up concept joins the growing list of Thompson Miami Beach culinary offerings curated by Michelle Bernstein, including Seagrape, the popular Floridian brassiere featuring a menu inspired by land and sea with local influences. This summer, Thompson Miami Beach will introduce another star chef culinary experience helmed by Top Chef alum Dale Talde, with his Asian-American eatery TALDE Miami Beach.
