Hosted by the Miami New Times as a kickoff to Miami Spice every July, The Iron Fork is an annual food event based around a competition between two local chefs. Both chefs are given a basket of ingredients with a secret component in which they duke it out to declare an Iron Fork champion.
Abundant restaurants and vendors are involved, serving samples to the attendees and spectators of the battle. Live music is available and it is similar to a cocktail party. People dress to impress and hold this event to high regards, so it is definitely not something to miss.
Last year, Jamie DeRosa of Tongue & Cheek and Giorgio Rapicavoli of Eating House battled it out in the kitchen in a competition judged by none other than Chef Timon Balloo of Sugarcane; Danny Serfer of Blue Collar; and Sean Brasel of Meat Market. The secret component was crab, with Giorgio Rapicavoli winning the competition at the end. 45 restaurants offered samples, with choices including Braised Oxtail with Carrot Purée & Cumin Oil from Bulla Gastrobar, 24-hour Braised Short Rib, and Nutella Bread Pudding from Chef Adrianne's Vineyard Restaurant & Wine Bar, and Tomato and Bread Soup with Eggplant and Salame Finocchiona in Basil and Olive Oil from Toscana Divino amongst others.
Tickets go on sale this upcoming Monday, so make sure to purchase your tickets in advance to guarantee your attendance.
