Bodegas Piqueras was founded in 191b in the town of Alniansa by Mario Bonete. The
winery is currently the driving force and principal producer of the D.O. Almansa.
The winery houses a 17,000 souare foot barrel ageing room whose temperature and
humidity are constantly controlled, and which currently holds more than 3,000
barrels of American and French oak, one of the largest in the region. The new
cellar also boasts the latest technology in winemaking equipment and a magnifi-
cent tasting room. Since 200S the winery operates 100* using renewable solar
energy and is currently in reconversion to organic farming practices.
Bodegas Piqueras has been working closely with local growers since 1915 to
manage over 1,200 acres of vineyard planted with Monastrell, Tempranillo and
Garnacha Tintorera grape varieties. The winery decided in 2000 to buy S00 acres
of farmland, where it planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot for its red
wines, complemented by Verdejo, an indigenous Spanish white grape, and Sauvig-
non Blanc, for its white wines. The soil of the vineyard, principally chalky, and the
local climate, extremely continental, are ideal for the cultivation of highly concen-
trated and expressive wines.
Today the wines of Bodegas Piqueras are enjoyed by wine consumers in over 30
countries, many of them being key wine markets, with exports representing just
over 95% of the winery's production.
