I’m not here to talk to you about a regular Fleming's experience; what I am here to talk to you about, though, is their absurdly awesome happy hour. I usually tend to stay away from reviewing chains, but I’ll make an exception for Fleming’s because (1) it is a fine-dining establishment and (2) this deal is just way too good to keep to myself. You see, Fleming’s has this thing called “5 for $6 ‘til 7,” which basically means that from 5 until 7, the bar menu consists of 5 cocktails, 5 wines, and 5 appetizers for the price of a mere $6. Now, this would be a good deal anywhere, but the food here is of high quality and prepared by the same kitchens that make $50 meals later on in the night, so basically, this can be considered a steal.
The appetizer selections include updated takes on steakhouse classics. Take their nod to the cheese board for example, where they give you a baked round of Brie with drizzled honey. Their fried Calamari is doused in sweet chili sauce and spices, making for a nice change of pace from the standard fried and rubbery sea creature. As a burger lover, I am happy to say that the offering here is stellar, especially for the price. A steakhouse burger is usually bound to be good, due to the fact that these steakhouses source meat that is of good quality. Also, the kitchen knows how to appease to your temperature request. The burger is served with perfectly melted American cheese, two strips of crispy bacon, and on a decadent and sweet challah bun. Although this burger won’t win any contests for creativity, the taste is reminiscent of a juicy and tender steak.
The drinks offered are not terribly creative, but you wouldn’t expect something like that from a steakhouse. Steakhouses are known for being classic in every sense, and Fleming’s stick to that. The service is cordial and professional, knowing just the right time to ask you if you need something. This experience is only accentuated by the beautiful dining room and the atmosphere the dim lighting provides. It does not get too loud, making it easy to have a conversation with people nearby, even though it does seem to get crowded around the second hour of this deal. I would normally keep something like this to myself, but it almost feels unfair not to share the knowledge about such a wonderful happy hour.
