Just as the weather starts to cool and the holiday season approaches, the city of Miami becomes home to one of the world’s biggest winter attractions of the year – Art Basel Miami Beach – the annual art exhibition featuring exquisite artwork from hundreds of leading galleries with international fame. Tongue & Cheek, South of Fifth’s neighborhood hotspot which was recently awarded “Restaurant of the Year” by Eater Miami, will be participating in the highly anticipated art extravaganza by hosting a couple of edible soirees sure to please art aficionados and foodies alike.
On Sunday, December 8 chef and owner Jamie DeRosa will team up with celebrated graffiti writer and fine artist, Claudio Picasso, for a special “Art Basel Brunch Bash.” From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. guests will enjoy a leisurely a la carte brunch featuring bottomless drinks and T&C favorites such as fried chicken and cheddar waffles with honey and maple syrup; Key West pink shrimp n’ grits with tomato, pickled peppers and chorizo; “munchkin” donuts with spiced Mexican chocolate; Cuban sandwich with pork, gruyère cheese and pickles; benedict of braised brisket with braised greens and tabasco hollandaise topped on English muffins and more. Claudio’s Art Basel collection pieces will be on display and for sale. The artist will be on-site to sign his work along with additional artists including Skott “Rage” Johnson, Trek 6, Atomik and Monz. The party continues on T&C’s street where break dancers will entertain guests with their sharp moves while a display of colorful beach cruisers will line the block. Diners will leave well fed and not empty handed as they will receive a special “swag scroll” to take home at the end of the day.
The perfect cure for Basel madness, T&C will host an “Art Basel Hangover” Happy Hour from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10 featuring delectable bites and a pop-up store by foodie design brand, Flavour Gallery. The food-centric apparelists, who are behind T&C’s whimsical character stamped shirts, will be launching a South Florida-inspired collection for sale titled “A Taste of South Florida” in collaboration with some of the city’s top local talents including Jamie DeRosa, Timon Balloo of SUGARCANE raw bar grill and the soon-to-open Bocce Bar, Dena Marino of MC Kitchen and Lindsay Autry of Sundy House. Both events are open to the public.
