Very rarely do I think about going south to Pinecrest (aka suburbia) but thankfully, Yelp Miami recently hosted their southernmost event ever and introduced me to Del Sur, a Latin restaurant that is well worth the drive. Entitled “Yelp’s Seven Wonders,” the event introduced all of us to the “seven fires” (or grilling techniques) of Argentinian cuisine through an unforgettable meal.

The seven courses were paired with exquisite Argentinian wines. Crisp Torrontes to complement the first courses, deep Malbec to mesh with the rich meats in the middle, and finally a Prosecco to accompany our sweet treat. So what food did we feast on?

Clockwise:

Course one represented involved the first cooking technique, stewing, with a savory lamb empanada.

Following that, we experienced grilling with a housemade grilled beef and pork sausage.

After, creamy polenta with fresh pomodoro sauce, baby arugula and white truffle oil represented boiling.

For course four, stuffing was exemplified with sweet pear and gorgonzola ravioli with marsala white wine reduction and fig.

Course five showcased searing with a pan-seared corvina topped with sun-dried tomato tapenade and parmesan cheese served atop a mashed sweet and regular potatoes.

Next, melt-in-your-mouth three-hour beef short ribs over prosecco risotto demonstrated braising.

And finally, course seven of dulce de leche cheesecake showed us their decadent baking skills. Embarrassingly enough, I ate it so fast I did not even have time to snap a picture! Even so, a photo would probably not do this justice. Cheesecake is my favorite dessert and one bite of theirs reminded me why.

During the course of the meal, the owners and chef came out to speak out the food, concept behind the restaurant and why exactly they chose Pinecrest. It’s clear they have a good thing going with this intimate, hole-in-the-wall locale. One of my favorite parts about the spot is that it features a open kitchen so you can look in and see them preparing your meal. While they might expand elsewhere in the future, my suggestion would be to come check them out now when you’re looking for a good quality and honest meal.
