In Italy, is common to eat a lot of bread, much like, well, in the U.S.! Two very popular types of bread in Italy are Focaccia and Ciabatta, though the name can make you confuse them, they are very different. Focaccia is a flat oven baked bread, much like pizza dough. Usually it is seasoned with olive oil, salt and sometimes herbs. You can find in many restaurants and bakeries that they top it with online, cheese and meats. It is mostly used as a side to a meal, as the base of a pizza or as sandwich bread.
Different to the focaccia bread, ciabatta can be compared to a french baguette. it is made from wheat flour, water, salt, olive oil and yeast. It looks long, broad and flat and can be baked in many different ways. You can find that it is commonly used in a “panini” (a pressed sandwich) in the US. Associate focaccia with pizza and ciabatta with sandwich!
