Secreto Restaurant In Kendall

Intriguing name for a restaurant, I thought, SECRETO (secret in Spanish). What is the big secret? What lies behind the door? Nothing less than a cornucopia of flavors and a treat for the senses...

This is a tiny restaurant but the visual effect of the decor is incredible because of all the marvelous art on the wall: local artists display their work here in order to get more exposure. The result is a cozy, colorful and divine atmosphere, perfect for dining and relaxing....now about the food....

BURRATA from heaven

This was a totally new experience for me. Mozzarella is my favorite cheese but burrata is like mozzarella on steroids! The wikipedia definition is of this cheese is : “Burrata is a fresh Italian cheese, made from mozzarella and cream. The outer shell is solid mozzarella while the inside contains both mozzarella and cream, giving it an unusual, soft texture. It is usually served fresh, at room temperature. The name "burrata" means "buttered" in Italian.”

I learn something new tasting this dish and was totally swept away by how delectable it was: the burrata was sitting on beautiful bed of grilled tomatoes, topped with a gentle pesto sauce. I will not forget this dish anytime soon.

PASTA FAZOOL - was fresh and tasted very homemade. It was obviously made with very much care, one cannot but be happy after eating a bowl of beans & pasta. This was the Zuppa del Giorno at $5.50.

Risotto SECRETO

I am not really a rice person but decided to taste this dish, with a name like this, it has to be good, right? Well...what to say other than this blew my taste buds out the window: it was so creamy, sweet-savory, luscious. Champagne risotto cooked with fresh buffalo mozzarella cheese, fresh tomatoes & oregano, served with grilled chicken in an apricot glazed sauce. This treasure was $16.95

ZABAGLIONE

Miss Issa was over the moon about this dessert. I did not want to try it as I need to keep my belly from blowing up... but her expressions of pure delight finally made me give in and it was worth every bite. Oh, my, please feed me zabaglione from SECRETO on by deathbed. I am sure to revive!

I got the opportunity to speak to one of the owners, Luis Buitron. I asked him why the name SECRETO (secret)? He said that the secret is in the menu: the specials of the day are the precious gems of this restaurant. Most patrons ask for this first.

This is the perfect place to bring a special someone for a Birthday celebration or to propose to your sweetheart 🙂

The total bill was less than $80.00 for lunch, for 3 of us. We all loved it and will visit again for sure.
