What is National Pizza Month?

Before we dive into the best places to eat during National Pizza Month, let us introduce you to the concept a little more. If you’re already familiar, keep scrolling for those all-important recommendations!

As you’ve probably already guessed by now, National Pizza Month is a month-long celebration of one of America’s (and the world’s) favorite foods. It’s the perfect excuse for pizza lovers across the US to indulge in their preferred slices, visit different pizzerias, and experiment with new toppings. In fact, many pizzerias get into the spirit and offer promotions and special deals.

But this isn’t a new concept invented in the social media age — the first National Pizza Month was celebrated back in 1984. And in 1987, the US Congress even officially designated October as National Pizza Month.

So, let’s get out there and celebrate our local pizzerias and pizzaioli! And if you’re a visitor or new to the area, use our Ultimate Miami Beach Travel Guide to help plan your culinary adventures.

Sample the Spirit of Italy at Casa Isola in Miami

Hot off the heels of its recent opening, chef/restaurateur José Mendín’s and Chef Santo Agnello’s coastal Italian-inspired concept, Casa Isola, is bringing a slice of Italian paradise to Miami. To hell with superstition! Celebrate National Pizza Month and get lucky in MiMo every Wednesday with Lucky 13 and indulge in the restaurant’s roster of house-made pizza pies from 4 PM to 11 PM for just $13 a pie.

Flavors include but are not limited to:

  • The Don Enzo – pepperoni, sausage, nduja, Mike’s Hot Honey, pecorino, and fresh-cut basil
  • Vecchia Signora – braised short rib with Taleggio white sauce, truffle oil, and pecorino
  • Primavera – pomodoro, tomatoes, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, and mozzarella
  • La Polpetta – meatball crumbles, ricotta, mozzarella, pecorino, and fresh basil
  • La Plazita – pastrami, ham, roasted chicken, mozzarella, papitas, and pink sauce.

Plus, exclusive to Wednesdays only, you can grab $6 slices of Chef Santo’s Detroit-style pizza as well as slices of Sicilian, Sfincione Traditional with anchovies, and Sicilian Upside-Down Cheese pizzas.

As with all of Chef Mendin’s kitchens, Casa Isola embraces a made-from-scratch approach utilizing the best possible ingredients at the foundation. Memorable food is not made with shortcuts. This approach seems to be working — Casa Isola won an Open Table Diners’ Choice Award in 2024!

Catch the PizzElla Food Van Around Miami!

PizzElla, by local chef Larry Galper, was previously located inside Time Out Market Miami before the venue closed in 2023. From its roots as an independent start-up to earning its spot in the top 50  pizzas in the US for 2023, this is the perfect place to celebrate National Pizza Month. At the time of writing, PizzElla is operating as a food van popping up at numerous venues and events in and around Miami, but there are plans to open a brick-and-mortar restaurant. Check the PizzaElla website and Instagram for updates.

Showcasing 10-inch pizzas (four or six slices upon request) made Neapolitan-style, and cooked in 900-degree ovens to ensure a bubbly, crisp outside, while still being soft on the inside, PizzElla is a pizza lover's dream.

Packed with locally sourced, high-quality ingredients, highlights include:

  • Cacio e Pepe Pizza – a white pie with parm and pecorino, mozzarella, peppery ricotta parm crema, garlic oil, and black pepper
  • Margherita Pizza – an original take on a traditional pizza with red sauce, parm and pecorino, fresh mozzarella, and fresh basil
  • Pepperoni & Hot Honey Pizza – with red sauce, parm and pecorino, garlic oil, fresh mozzarella, pepperoni, and house-made sweet and spicy honey

  • Prosciutto and Arugula Pizza – with red sauce, parm and pecorino, fresh mozzarella, thinly-sliced prosciutto, arugula dressed with garlic oil, and topped with shaved parmesan

Guests also have the option to “Modify Yo Pie” by adding extra cheese (vegan or regular), pickled shishito peppers, mushrooms, bacon, meatballs, prosciutto, and pepperoni.
