WHAT: The National Hotel, Collins Avenue’s elegant and cinematic Art Deco hotel, is hosting the first annual Baguette Battle Miami, a “best baguette” competition on April 14th at 7 p.m. Created by French Morning, the first digital French magazine in the United States, the event will gather South Florida’s top bakers and foodies for the second “best baguette” competition in U.S. History.
French Morning hosted America’s first “best baguette” contest in New York in January 2016, bringing together hundreds of bread lovers and food enthusiasts with their readers’ favorite local bakeries. A culinary hub for international fare, Miami will be the second destination for the “best baguette” contest. The area’s top bakers and pastry makers will present their best baguettes and artisan-crafted breads in front of a panel of judges and a winner will be chosen for the best baguette in this blind-tasting contest.
Baguette Battle Miami is sponsored by La Compagnie, Île de France and Cacao Noël. The event is open to the public.Early bird tickets are available for $10 until March 28th, general admission is $20 per person and VIP tickets are $70 per person, plus taxes and fees. Admission price includes the grand tasting of baguettes and assorted breads from local bakeshops, charcuteriecourtesy of Fabrique Délices, cheese buffet by Île de Franceand jamsby Bonne Maman. One complimentary glass of wine and water per person is also included courtesy of Château d'Esclans, Badoit and Evian.
The competing finalists for “best baguette” in Miami include Patrick Baboun of Délices de France, Georges Berger ofChocolate Fashion, David Loprete of Pause Café, Arthur Arnaize of Epicerie Wynwood, David Thau of La Provence, Sébastien Sangely of Tulipe Café, Tomas Strulovic of True Loaf, Alibey Embarek of La Parisienne, and Bernard Casse and Matthieu Cartron of Croissan'Time.
The panel of judges is comprised of Gregory Gourreau,Executive Chefof Juvia Miami Beach; Sylvain Leroy, Corporate Chefof Paris Gourmet and member of L'Academie Culinaire de France; Christian Rassinoux, Executive Chefof the Diplomat Resort & Spa; Matthew McDonald, Executive Chef of TheNational Hotel; and Charly Nestor, French television producer and host of Canal Bleu.
