Mason Eatery Reopens After A Revamp To Space And Menus

The American eatery will reopen in conjunction with Boombox, the group’s newest concept

Mason Eatery will officially reopen for dinner at 6PM on Thursday, November 15 after a short closure to update the space and menus. The restaurant’s new look and feel will debut alongside Boombox, the newest concept by the team behind Beaker & Gray and Mason Eatery. After the June 2018 opening of Mason Eatery, chef/owner Brian Nasajon and team, gained insight as to what Miami was hungry for, and, heading into the busy season, they decided it was time for something new.

Among the changes, a brand-new dinner menu with thoughtfully sophisticated dishes, maintaining the deeply rooted classic American cookery found at Mason since opening. Tweaks to the brunch and lunch menus have also been made, and there will be a new Happy Hour menu with an expansive array of delicious food options. The culinary craftsmanship and innovative techniques, including ingredients made in-house, will very much still be at the core of the concept.

The family-run outpost has also undergone décor renovations, making the restaurant far cozier, with communal banquettes, new lighting and a warmer color scheme. The original furniture from the dining room will now be used exclusively for outdoor seating.

“We’re excited to unveil the changes we’ve made,” says Nasajon. “While Mason was killing it during brunch and lunch, we saw a need to rework our dinner and late-night offerings. We think the new, refined Mason, especially after dark, will give guests what they’re looking for.”

The approachable menus, which encourage sharing, will feature American classics with a Nasajon twist. The dinner menu will feature Light, Kinda Light, Hearty and Simple options as well as Dessert. Light options include Smoked Hamachi with coconut, dill and candied grapefruit ($16); Hammock Greens with black truffle, parmesan and oyster mushroom ($15); Salmon Crudo with horseradish, salmon roe and fennel ($14); and Black Grouper with honeydew, compressed cucumber and charred avocado ($14). Kinda Light dishes will include original favorites such as the Bagel Bites with nova lox, garlic churro and dill cream ($13) and the Avocado Toast with crab, hollandaise and chive ($16) and new dishes including Pinchos with buffalo chicken, clover honey, salt n’ vinegar ($14); Cheese Poppers with oaxaca, pineapple chili and bacon ($12); and Charred Broccolini with green goddess, almond and black garlic ($14).

New Hearty dinner dishes include Short Rib Wellington in a croissant with pickled mushrooms and chicken liver mousse ($17); Pastrami on Rye with rye pasta, pastrami carbonara and black pepper ($15); Crispy Skin Duck with creamed collards, waffle cone and sour cherry ($16); and Braised Short Rib with potato gnocchi, gruyere cream and cipollini onion ($21). Favorites like the Mason Burger, Oxtail Pot Pie and Truffle Mac n’ Cheese remain on the menu. A handful of sides, or Simple dishes, have also been added to the menu including Yucca Chips with mojo, cotija an cilantro crema ($5); Zoodles with garlic, almond and avocado pesto ($7); and Smashed Potatoes with smoked jalapeño mayo and chive ($6).

Standout additions to lunch and brunch include Pan con Lechon with chimichurri, romaine and swiss ($15); Pan Seared Snapper with rice noodles, tomato water and pickled onion ($22); as well as lighter dishes such as a Quinoa Bowl with bean medley, arugula and jalapeño vinaigrette ($15); Honeydew Ceviche with hearts of palm, avocado and compressed cucumber ($13); and Lettuce Wraps with buffalo chicken thigh, crunchy garlic and pickled onion ($16).

Sweets, created by of Pastry Chef John Maieli, will remain the same with the popular Jars, Cookies and Bars being offered during lunch. A Tiramisu with almond macaron, vanilla bean cream and coffee spuma ($13) has been added to the dinner menu.

Happy Hour offerings go beyond the standard Happy Hour menu with dishes like Poached Mussels with lemongrass and bacon butter ($8); Fried Chicken Sliders on an English muffin with garlic mayo ($5, minimum 2 per order); the beloved Mason Burger with ketchup and pickles on a sesame bun ($8); and Fried Calamari with lemon and coriander ($8).

In conjunction with the grand reopening of Mason Eatery, Beaker & Gray Group will be opening its first bar, Boombox, under the direction of bar director/partner Ben Potts, which will open in the former Bardot space next door. Boombox will offer creative, carefully curated cocktails by Potts in a refined bar and lounge setting where entertainment will be comprised of live music, solo acts and DJ sets by known and loved local artists. The cocktail menu will play tribute to the terribly wonderful drinks from the ‘80s and ‘90s, recreating them with fresh ingredients, new ideas and appealing presentations. Expect cocktails like The Longest Island Iced Tea and Lemon Drop the Mic. Select food items from Mason Eatery will be available at Boombox.
