Mac n Queso at Huahua’s

Luckily for us (and for you), HuaHua’s recently opened on the west end of Lincoln Road as a local refuge for delectable and quick Mexican food. Unless you’re willing to travel way down south to Homestead, authentic and good Mexican fare is few and between in our city. And although Huahua's does stick to authentic recipes and preparations, they also offer unique and ambitious takes on Mexican food by fusing it with American comfort-food favorites.

You can’t go wrong with anything you order at HuaHua’s from the fried chicken tacos to the crispy pescado, but just make sure you accompany your order with a side of Mac n Queso ($3.99). Always. The Mac n Queso is a Mexican take on the standard American dish by the addition of queso blanco, Oaxaca, jack, and cotija cheese, making for a surprisingly light but flavorful meal. The past is then topped with a homemade version of Doritos, appealing to the kid in all of us with a crunchy and umami-blasted layer that is hard to deny. Enjoy your meal with any flavor of Jarritos, a Mexican soda, since you will probably not feel truly Mexican unless you have one.
