POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (November 3, 2015) – In less than two weeks, Miami Dolphins legends and top chefs from throughout South Florida* will pair up as part of the sixth annual “John Offerdahl’s Broward Health® Gridiron Grill-Off Food & Wine Festival.” Teams are already getting fired up for this year’s culinary showdown for charity, which combines football, food and philanthropy, plus special guest appearances by Adam Richman and Michelle Bernstein.
“During our sixth annual event, guests will be treated to a star-studded afternoon with the chance to meet their favorite Miami Dolphins legends, local media personalities and national celebrity guests, while sampling excellent dishes prepared by talented chefs,” said John Offerdahl, event founder and former Miami Dolphins All-Pro Linebacker. “Football fans and foodies alike will enjoy this cooking competition that helps to Feed the Needs of Kids in Crisis.”
Teams consisting of chefs from the best restaurants in South Florida, such as Grille 401, Naked Taco, Rebel House, Oceans 234 and Darrel and Oliver’s Café Maxx and Miami Dolphins legends, including Jim “Crash” Jensen, Mark Higgs, Jay Fielder, Zach Thomas, Troy Stradford and Ed Newman, will go head-to-head for the 2015 Judge’s Choice award. Getting in on the competition, the event’s nearly 3,000 attendees are encouraged to download the Gridiron Grill-Off app and vote for their favorite grilled entrees to select the 2015 Fan Favorite winner.
In addition to sampling great food and drinks, the Grill-Off will offer guests the chance to enjoy live music, a cornhole competition, a silent auction, the Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey Tailgate Challenge, the Samuel Adams Craft Beer Garden, the Allied Kitchen & Bath Backyard Barbeque and an expanded Guy Harvey’s Sustainable Seafood Village. Alabama Marine Resources Division will also be on-hand to provide information about sustainable seafood practices used in the Alabama Gulf’s seafood industry.
Bringing national attention to this annual event, Adam Richman, author, actor and television personality from Travel Channel’s “Man Finds Food” and NBC’s food competition show “Food Fighters,” will be in attendance to sign copies of his cookbook, “Straight Up Tasty” (Clarkson Potter). Richman will also prepare a recipe from his cookbook at 3:45 p.m. during a Grilling Demo hosted by Big 105.9’s Paul and Young Ron.
Michelle Bernstein, the James Beard Award winning chef (Best Chef South 2008) and Miami native, will join the panel of esteemed food aficionados slated to judge the Grand Grill-Off. Other local celebrity panelists include Sef Gonzalez (The Burger Beast), Chef Allen Susser and Jack Kane, the culinary academic department director at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.
100% of event net proceeds will benefit Offerdahl’s Hand-Off Foundation and its mission to “Feed the Needs of Kids in Crisis.” Charitable recipients include 4KIDS of South Florida, HOPE South Florida, Here’s Help, Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association Educational Foundation, Miami Dolphins Foundation and Taste of the NFL.
