Joey’s Italian Café, the affordable contemporary eatery that helped to shape Wynwood into a dining and entertainment destination, will now open its doors on Sundays from noon until 10 p.m. starting Sunday, November 11, 2012 offering an Italian-style brunch menu, as well as lunch and dinner. The offerings are reflective of Executive Chef Ivo Mazzon’s experience and background in the Veneto region of Italy, and feature a selection of brunch staples, as well as rustic Italian country dishes, at prices designed to encourage repeat Sunday visits. “We are excited to be opening our doors on Sundays to cater to our loyal clientele,” says proprietor Joey Goldman.
Sunday brunch offerings include frittata con cipolle e salsiccia – scrambled eggs with onion & Italian sausage served with tomatoes ($12) and uova alla fiorentina – toast topped with poached eggs, spinach, fontina and black forest ham ($14). Salad offerings include insalata di tonno – mixed greens, red onion, tomato, cannellini beans with tuna and calamari ($13) and a traditional caprese with cherry mozzarella, tomatoes, oregano, basil and extra virgin olive oil ($12).
The menu also features carpaccio dishes: carpaccio del bosco – thin sliced beef with arugula, shaved Grana Padano cheese and truffle mayo ($12) and carpaccio di salmone with Romaine lettuce, bruschetta tomato and chives cream cheese ($13). Those looking to enjoy paninis can choose from a variety including panino alla ortolana – zucchini, eggplant, scamorza cheese, mayo and tomatoes ($9) and vipiteno – speck, grana padano, arugula and mayo ($10).
House-made pastas include simply prepared gnocchi, served with a choice of meat sauce, tomato sauce, pink sauce or four cheese sauce ($12); linguine indiavolate with linguine with shrimps in a spicy tomato sauce ($18) and linguine alle vongole – linguine with a white wine and clams sauce ($16).
Entrees on the menu feature paillard di pollo in salsa verde – grilled chicken breast served with salad and potatoes ($15); salmon e lenticchie – salmon served with lentils ($18) and bistecca alle erbe 8oz. grilled sirloin steak with herbs & spinach ($19).
Pizza additions include salsiccia – tomato, mozzarella, Italian sausage, onion and bell pepper ($13); gorgonzola tartufata – gorgonzola cheese, walnuts and truffle oil topped with arugula ($15) and viennesse – tomato sauce, sliced franks and mozzarella ($11).
Other recent changes at Joey’s: A recent patio renovation now offers patrons an open-air feel complete with twinkling lights and a new outdoor sound system.
