New Menu Items Unveiled At Joey’s Italian Café In Wynwood

Executive chef Ivo Mazzon, of Joey’s Italian Café, the affordable contemporary eatery that helped to make Wynwood a dining and entertainment destination, has recently added several new regional dishes to the menu. Reflective of Mazzon’s experience and background in the Veneto region of Italy, the new menu offers a selection of rustic Italian country dishes, at prices designed to encourage repeat visits.

“Of course, we are keeping the mainstays that our diners have always enjoyed, but I wanted to add dishes utilizing the great fresh ingredients we have access to, as well as some new pizzas and pastas,” explains chef Mazzon.

New salad additions include insalata di tonno – mixed greens, red onion, tomato, cannellini beans with tuna and calamari ($13) and a traditional caprese with cherry mozzarella, tomatoes, oregano, basil and extra virgin olive oil ($12)

The chef has also added two new carpaccio dishes to the antipasti selections: carpaccio del bosco – thinly sliced beef with hydroponic greens and Montegrappa cheese ($12) and carpaccio di salmon with shaved fennel and orange in a lemon dressing ($13).

House-made pastas include simply prepared gnocchi, served with a choice of meat sauce, tomato sauce, pink sauce or four cheese sauce ($12); fettucine carbonara with pancetta, eggs, parmesan, black pepper and a touch of cream ($12) and paccheri tartufati – tube shaped pasta with spinach, parmesan and a hint of truffle ($15).

New entrees have been added such as gamberoni al brandy – flambé prawns with brandy accompanied by soft polenta ($24); vitello alla boscaiola – veal scallopini in a creamy mushroom sauce with asparagus ($20) and funghi alla trevisana – grilled Portobello mushroom and eggplant over polenta and spinach ($16).

Pizza additions include salsiccia – tomato, mozzarella, Italian sausage, onion and bell pepper ($13); romana – tomato, mozzarella, stracchino and artichoke topped with porchetta ($16) and affumicatta – spinach, mozzarella, scamorza, sundried tomatoes, smoked salmon and hot pepper ($15).
