EVENTS IN MIAMI THIS WEEKEND JUNE 20, 2014

There is something going on in the culinary scene in Miami, and we recommend these events in Miami this weekend June 20, 2014.

Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation

This annual premier culinary benefit featuring top chefs and mixologists joining hands to end childhood hunger in America is one of the year’s can’t miss events. Local culinary heroes Allen Susser and Timon Balloo will be leading the event featuring chefs and gourmet cuisine from over 50 restaurants and vendors. Taste of the Nation has enchanted diners since 1988, with events that bring together chefs and the like willing to donate their time and skills for a just case. Along with live entertainment and silent auctions, these established chefs hope to gather as many funds as possible in order to bring an end to one of the biggest problems facing America today. This year boasts an incredible lineup of restaurants, including places like Joe’s Stone Crab, Meat Market, Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill, The Federal, Tongue and Cheek, and Uvaggio. After the event, there will be a much-anticipated After Party sponsored by Tequila Casa Dragones Blanco. Dish Crawl’s Palate Party Path Through Coconut Grove

This Wednesday, Dish Crawl will be hosting its first event of the year in the ubiquitous Coconut Grove neighborhood. Known for its picturesque scenery, pleasant atmosphere, and much-regarded communal ambiance, Coconut Grove is a wonderful selection to showcase our city as a dining destination in the country. Dish Crawl is a national food tour that takes food lovers on a walking culinary adventure through a neighborhood. For just $45, you will be given the opportunity to sample food from three Grove hotspots. Although the restaurant selections are usually kept hush, thanks to our friends over at Miami New Times, the first location has been revealed as Peacock Garden Café. Each restaurant is to provide three to four different samplings of their signature or popular dishes. Alcohol is not included, but diners will have the option of purchasing a ticket with a wine pairing should they please or just purchasing alcohol at the restaurant out of their own pocket. Luckily, the event does happen between the standard happy hour times.

Miami New Times’ “Best of” Release Party

For over two dozen years, our very successful and popular local guide to all things Miami has been The Miami New Times. Just like the past 26 years, they will be releasing a “Best of” list showcasing the best restaurants, shops, and bars in the city this June. This year, the release of the issue comes with a cocktail party being hosted at the Rusty Pelican, Key Biscayne’s posh and upscale dining and events venue. Food will be provided by the Rusty Pelican, and alcohol will be provided by an extensive list of sponsors, including Voli vodka; Purity vodka; Rhum Barbancourt; Deep Eddy vodka; Miami Club rum; Tanduay Asian rum; Zignum mezcal; Macallan 12 Year Scotch; Rums of Puerto Rico; Souverain and Castello di Gabbiano wines; Veuve de Vernay Champagne and Barton & Guestier rose, and Goose Island beer. All cocktails being served are inspired by our great city. Take Miami Club Rum’s Wynwood Balls, a drink created with Miami Club rum, St. Germaine, orange juice, and a splash of midori melon.
