Discover Surfside – Miami’s Uptown Beachtown

SURFSIDE, FL — Surfside, Florida boasts a mile of pristine beaches, luxury oceanfront hotels, world-class shopping

and culturally diverse restaurants. People have long flocked to Surfside for its family-friendly atmosphere, and while this still endures, the town is currently experiencing record-breaking growth and development - evolving it into an exciting global travel and culinary destination. New properties like Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club and FENDI Château blend uptown luxury with beach town charm.

“Surfside offers the best of all worlds,” says Duncan Tavares, the town’s Assistant Town Manager and Director of Tourism, Economic Development & Community Services. “It’s the perfect bridge between the excitement of Miami Beach and the quiet luxury of Bal Harbour. Couples and families looking for the ideal mix of laid-back and high-end should strongly consider a visit to Surfside.”

Choose from luxurious and immaculate hotel accommodations, such as the Grand Beach Hotel, new Marriott Residence Inn, Sun Harbour Boutique Hotel and Solara Resort. Visitors seeking five-star accommodations can book an oceanfront suite at the new Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club, located at Collins Avenue and 90th Street.

Beyond its wonderful hotels and white-sand beaches, there’s a bit of Deco history to Surfside, which was incorporated in 1935, most of it centering on the prestigious Surf Club. Opened in 1930, the Surf Club was situated on more than six acres of prime beachfront property. The Mediterranean-revival- style villa, originally designed by Russell Pancoast, was the spot of many a gilded parties with glitterati guests like Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra and Winston Churchill. Today, the once posh members-only enclave has returned to its grandeur with the newly redeveloped Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club - designed by architect Richard Meier with interiors by Joseph Durand.

For foodies, cruise over to Surfside’s charming downtown, which is set along Harding Avenue just a few blocks from the ocean. The downtown district offers a variety of restaurants and cuisines. Standout restaurants include Josh’s Deli, a popular Jewish-style deli with innovative dishes like duck fat matzah balls and crunchy spicy tuna latkes; Serendipity Creamery, serving eclectic ice cream and sorbet flavors, such as pear Riesling, toasted coconut and cereal milk; and the celebrity favorite - 26 Sushi & Tapas. Several salons and shops are also located along Harding Avenue including Le Beau Maroc, stocked with exotic kaftans and jewelry imported from Morocco, and Nikki’s Beachhouse with trendy resort wear and designer swimsuits.

Contemporary Surfside offers unique attractions like the Turtle Walk, which features 13 colorful sculptures of the Florida Loggerhead Sea Turtle and brings awareness of sea turtle conservation. At the oceanfront Community Center, residents and visitors staying in Surfside can enjoy two swimming pools, including a children’s activity pool with plunge slide, a Jacuzzi, and an outdoor café. It also offers fitness classes ranging from Aqua Zumba to Beach Yoga as well as recreational activities and programs for all ages.

The Town of Surfside also hosts several family-friendly events throughout the year. First Fridays presents a monthly beach picnic that runs from May through August on the first Friday of every month. Each event boasts a worldly theme and includes live entertainment, drum circle, fashion show and refreshments on the beach behind Surfside’s Community Center. During high season from February through April, Surfside holds Third Thursdays, a monthly downtown street festival with entertainment and food trucks. Past events have included a tribute to the music of ‘60s and ‘70s with pinball machines, dance contests and a VIP lounge.

From couples looking for an upscale romantic getaway to families in search of a laidback beachfront destination, Surfside – Miami’s Uptown Beachtown - offers the perfect escape.
