The winner, Will Isaacson of Fort Lauderdale, Florida suggested the 8th Street Kumquat Whiskey Sour, a sour ale brewed with a healthy addition of Miami-grown kumquats and aged in whiskey-soaked oak.
Will points out that the proposed brew “connects the tradition of Miami's 8th Street to a locally grown/sourced food and the flair of the new Miami cocktail scene.” He will now have the opportunity to make his beer concept come to life with the help of the brewing team at Concrete Beach Brewery in Wynwood.
The finished version of Will’s creation will be on tap at the Social Hall once it has been brewed. In the meantime, he will work closely with Head Brewer Chris McGrath and his team to finalize the recipe and plan for the official brew. As part of the contest, he will also receive a Concrete Beach Kegerator, tap handle and a case of Concrete Beach pint glasses.
The “What Brews You?” contest was a call out for fun, unique ideas for beer that embodies the spirit and flavors of Miami and to show that beer can be brewed with practically anything, from mango, to chocolate, to elderflower.
The winner of the first “What Brews You?” contest, Dave Butler of Tamarac, FL, recently brewed his mojito cream ale, and it’ll be featured at the Social Hall once it is ready in mid-August.
