Comfort food blogger Sef Gonzalez aka Burgerbeast hosts various culinary events throughout the year, most of them featuring either on Burgers or food typical to the Miami area. Although some have only been held a couple of times, they have been successful enough that we see them as something that will become an annual occurrence. Such is the case with his first event, the Frita Showdown. This event is having its second occurrence in 2014, and features the Frita, a basic Cuban variation on the hamburger created with a chorizo and beef patty blend seasoned with Latin spices an served on a Cuban roll with fried shoestring potatoes. In this event, Sef gathered the top Frita restaurants in Miami in a competition to see who would produce the best Frita. The public made the choice, as each attendee got to cast a vote.

Such was the case with Burger Brawl, first taking place in 2014. Here, Sef gathered 20 of the best restaurants serving burgers in the South Florida area and had them battle it out to gather votes from those attending. It was quite similar to an outdoor party, with complimentary beer by Samuel Adams and dessert trucks offering gelato bars and whoopee pies.

The last annual event held by Burgebeast is the Croquettapalooza, an ode to the cylinder shaped fritter. People in Miami are loyal to their croqueta restaurant of choice, and Sef takes advantage of this to put the local restaurants against each other in hopes of being crowned the best croqueta in the city.

Burgerbeast’s events are always expertly planned and are never oversold, which is a welcomed change from your usual culinary event. You will always go home full and with an idea of what is comfort food to the people of Miami.
